Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.
Big news! Yesterday I got my first ever bike! (as in a bicycle/push bike) I know what you’re thinking right now: I thought she was an adult, how has this girl never had a bike? And you are right, I am 24 and sadly I have never had a bike before last night when mine finally arrived! So I’m in big kid mode at the moment and can’t wait to go home and ride it!
This week’s TTT is freebie week, and I was looking back at some of my past TTT lists for inspiration and came across my Top Ten Things on my Reading Wishlist and enjoyed looking through and seeing which things were the same and which things had changed over the past 2 and a half years since I first posted it.
Carried over from my original list I am a big fan of re-tellings, however I like it when they are totally flipped on their head. I like it when Snow White is a college girl who lives in a dorm with 7 Geeks or when Cinderella is actually a Cyborg who lives in futuristic China. Give me MORE of these please!
Want this too? Then check out The Lunar Chronicles!
Another one copied from my original list, but I am in desperate need of more teenage parent stories. Usually we get a teenage/YA relationship and they end up getting pregnant, lots of drama and by the end of the book they have reconciled and baby is born. But what about what comes next?! Is it weird that I want to see them actually having to deal with the stress of being parents?!
If you are in need of this too then check out Boys Don’t Cry (Malorie Blackman).
I really really like when we get a great group of characters who are all really close friends/family and just bounce off each other perfectly. Even better, I love it when we get these characters in a series and each of the characters gets their own book, that is focused on their individual story, whilst also still following the group. I have read some amazing ones, but I NEED MORE!!!
Fantasy has to be my favourite genre because of it’s ability to take me away from my life and into some incredibly built world. The attention to detail that some authors put into their worlds is just amazing and I can never get enough of them. The history, the cultures, the religions, the food, the governments, the maps! I just love it all! I’ve just finished a bunch of amazing fantasy books/series and I really really need more!!!
Brothers, besties or some other kind of family members I LOVE bromances. Some of my favourite male characters are part of some kind of bromance and I love how the dynamic can switch between joking/teasing to protective and supportive no matter what. I’ve sadly hit a bit of a slump with bromances though, and would really love to find some more very soon!
If you are in need of bromances too then you should check out: the Carillo brothers in the Sweet/Carillo Brothers series, the Benedict brothers in the Benedicts series, or the Maddox brothers in the Beautiful series.
Robin Hood and his Merry Men, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table or the Greek Gods and Goddesses. I LOVE books based on myths and legends. I’m quite sad to say that through all my years of reading, I haven’t yet found a Robin Hood story that I loved so I am DESPERATE for one, as well as more of the others that I love too!
I’ve read a few books recently which feature characters who write and I have really loved them. It’s such a great addition to a book to also get to read some of the characters words/poems and it made me discover Slam Poetry which I LOVE (shout of to CoHo!). It’s something I’ve not read tons of but really would love to read so much more!
I love magic and supernatural powers, but my favourite has got to be when real world people gain abilities (like Telepathy, premonitions, telekinesis etc) and use them to fight other people with powers or just make the world a better place! I have tried comics before but sadly these just aren’t as good, in my opinion, so I’ll just take more books with powers instead!
If you are looking for a great set of books that features characters with powers then you should check out the Benedicts series.
So I feel like I have to explain this one because I am aware that there are a lot of books set in the times of major historical events. But I’d like to read more books about historical events but from someone else’s POV separate from the actual event. I like it when we read about the little stories that happen at the same time and somehow impact it in some little way. Hopefully this makes sense?
If you kind of understand what I am talking about, or if you are totally confused and want clarification, then you really should read The Next Together.
I LOVE BIG ADVENTURES! Things like Harry Potter which in it’s most basic form is a story about a good wizard against a bad wizard. Not matter what else happens in the books we know that in the end it is all going to come down to Harry Vs Voldemort and one of them has to win. It took us 7 books to get to it, but I loved every single minute of it and I want more books like this. I want big chunky books, full of adventure that will take me hours and hours to read and weeks to get over once I have finished it. Basically I think I just want fatter books and longer series?
Only one recommendation here because it is incredible and deserves all the glory itself: the Inheritance Cycle. A-MAZ-ING!
What is on your bookish wishlist? Do you wish for any of the things that I have? Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned?
What’s on your list this week?
