Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten List and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.
Although I am not from the USA I really like the whole idea of Thanksgiving and always get thinking this time of year about the things that I am thankful for. So here’s my list, a mix of bookish and non bookish things I am thankful for this year.
My family truly are amazing and are always there when I need them. There have been a few tough times this past year and they have stuck with me, supporting me the whole time.
I feel that this past year I have really found my true true friends who I know will be in my life for a very long time. They are spread all over the UK, and some the World but they are always there when I need them.
THE ABILITY TO READ
It sounds cheesy but books mean everything to me. If I’ve had a bad day I immediately go a certain pile of books in my room that never fail to cheer me up. When I hear about people who can’t read it makes me really sad that they will never have that chance to be swept away by a book. Everyone has the right to be able to read.
THAT I WAS ENCOURAGE TO READ
They probably regret it now (because my nose is always in a book, especially when they want me to do something!), but my parents were super supportive of my reading when I was a child. I had the biggest book case and it was always full. They would take me to the library, they would buy me books, basically they fed my obsession. I think it was because of this support that I ended up the reading geek in school who was always 10 books ahead of everyone else, but I loved it.
At the moment I work in an office. I write letters, I put them in envelopes, I send emails, I sign and stamp forms. Not a glamorous job and not what I want to do with my life. But I am aware that there are so many people at the moment who are unemployed and struggling to make ends meet for their families, especially around this time of year. So I am thankful for my job, but also hopeful that I will get one that I actually like soon!
I have tried so many times to start a blog and then a week later have given up on it. I promised myself this time that I would stick with it. It’s only been 3 months, but I’m loving it so much. I’m so thankful for the people that come on here and read my reviews and other random posts, I’m thankful for the people that take time to comment on my posts/tweets/facebook posts and I’m so thankful for the authors who send me books to read.
This blog has made reading, which was just a hobby, in to something that is so much more. It has given me my own place on the internet and the opportunity to meet so many people who are just as obsessed with books as I am!
There’t not really much to say about this one, it’s kind of obvious.
There have been some scary times this past year, but I am very happy and thankful to say that me and my family are all happy, healthy and safe. This is most definitely the thing that I am most thankful for every year, and most hopeful for for the next year.
I have been very lucky recently about all the things I have had an opportunity to do. I went to Vegas with my sisters, I’ve been so some amazing music events, I graduated from university. There is so much I have done, and so much that I have planned to do this next year and I am so thankful for every opportunity and have made sure to enjoy each and every one to its fullest.
It seems like an obvious one, but for some people they don’t have one. It is getting colder, and windier and wetter and every night I look out the window and I am thankful that I have somewhere to be. There are people who have run away from home, can’t afford their home or been kicked out and some have nowhere to go. I am extremely thankful for the warmth and safety that my home provides for me and my family.
THE LITTLE THINGS
We don’t realise how many things we are thankful for during a day. Wake up and see that its sunny and you are thankful that you’re not going to get soaked on the way to work. When your in work, stressing over something and a colleague comes over and helps you and you are thankful you work with such nice people. When you get home and one of your family has cooked your tea and it is ready and waiting for you to eat it and you are thankful that they took the time out to make food for you.
There are so many things that we don’t realise that we are thankful for every day, and how many things that we should be thankful for.
