Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Songs That Would Make Great Books

May 27, 2014 Top Ten Tuesday 22

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish. Each week they release a Top Ten List and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

Singers & songwriters always say that their songs are written by certain moments in their life. Sometimes its obvious the story they are trying to share with us, sometime it’s not, but there’s always a story behind the song.

This week I have chosen some of the songs that feature stories that I really wish I could know more about and that I think would make great books. I ran out of songs at around 7, so its more like my Top Seven really.

I would love a story based on this song. It sounds like it would make an awesome romance, this guy refusing to move and ending up on the news is like the ultimate romantic gesture!

I LOVE the beginning of this song. It’s like this guys dad is preparing him to lead all these ‘broken, beaten and damned’ people. Sounds like the start of some great fantasy/dystopian trilogy.

I love a good soldier story, and the story featured in this song is beautiful and in my opinion would make such an emotion and powerful read.

I feel like this would make one of those great ‘healing stories’ and with a little bit of romance mixed in as ‘the man of her dreams comes along, picks her up and puts her on his shoulder.’

You can’t have a lit about song stories and not feature Taylor Swift! This song is brilliant, along with the music video, and it would make such a fun story!

Yes, another Taylor Swift song, but again, this song could not Not make the list. I know its basically the story of Romeo & Juliet, but I would really love another modern retelling. I really do love the whole forbidden love thing.

Tragic but beautiful, I was sobbing at these lyrics. I would be such a emotional mess if this was made into a book, but it would be amazing!

Do you know of any songs that would make awesome books? .

Oh dear, I feel like such a failure of a fan to both Mark Schultz and books that I didn’t know about this! Thank you so much for letting me know, added to my TBR! REALLY want to read it now!

This is such an awesome idea! I really like all the songs you picked and think they would be wonderful story lines for books.

Thanks so much, I do like the TTT when we get to pick our own post. People come up with such awesome ideas! 🙂 Ahh thats good, you see anything you think I’d like, let me know! 🙂

Oh yes, I would love a book based on Welcome to the Black Parade. It’s a very evocative song and I think it could make a great story. While I don’t really think books based on Taylor Swift’s songs would be quite my cup of tea, I bet they would be really fun books as her music is always so catchy. Great and inventive idea for a post this week.

The first time I heard Welcome to the Black Parade I actually thought the into bit was like something from a film/tv series. It really would be awesome. I think Taylor Swift songs would be perfect for those really cheesy, girly movies that we all let be our guilt pleasure every so often! 🙂

I get so much of my inspiration to write from music, sometimes the perfect songs with some awesome lyrics can really get the stories going in your mind 🙂

I’d be lying if I said some of these weren’t ex-shower songs. But I certainly do love the music-inspired aspect of this post. I love music so much that I’d give up sight just to keep music in my life (and yes, I guess that means giving up reading as well). Pretty sure I’m the only pseudo reader who would do that though haha.

Wow, dedication! That’s a toughy though, I’m not sure what I would give up between books and music. That’s hard! I do love a good shower song, the cheesier the better in my opinion! 🙂

This is such a good post! I love making up my own stories in my head when I’m listening to my favourite songs. Completely agree with Katy Perry! I’d like to see a book written about Waking Up in Vegas 😉 That could be interesting! xxxx

    • Broc's Bookcase

Ooo yeah, that would be a good one. I feel like since doing this post, every time I listen to a song I am listening out for the story to see if it would make a good book! 🙂

  5. Natalie Marrujo

Counting Stars by OneRepublic is way interesting BTW!!! Perfect for a realistic fictional story about two people with autism or a group of Deaf teens for changing the world about any subject at school. 🙂 And also, how come I would like to see Crash by Daughtry that could be a perfect dystopian trilogy in animal fiction like my favorite video game with my own YA dystopian twist (a story about a hero who carries a dark past that’s shrounded in mystery. To embark on a “mountain-plot” chart of a 3-parter journey to unveil his true identity, he had to beat the enemies, fall in love with the love of his young life, and save the world) and how can I ever think about Dead Sea Scrolls for the memoir about some teen boy who attempted to commit suicide or something. Thanks for your top ten freebie pick!

Wow, I should have gotten in touch with you when I was running out of ideas! These are brill. I love your idea for Counting Stars, love that song and I agree that story would fit with it brilliantly. I’ve not hear the other songs but will definitely be checking them out, some really cool ideas here. Thanks for getting involved! 🙂
