Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books Which Feature Characters Who Have Skills I Wish I Had!

April 28, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 20

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

A I am forever reading books about characters who can do all this really cool stuff that I really wish I could do. I have tried to pick just the realistic ones (that it’s actually possible to learn!); everyone wishes they could fly but doesn’t mean it’s going to happen!

So here they are…

TTT Sign Language

My ReviewΒ
I have learnt bits of sign language over the past few years, but I have always wanted to be fluent in it. I guess if it’s not something you use all the time you just forget. I am so jealous of Sam in What I Didn’t Say, and her ability to speak sign language so easily.

>>>

TTT Parkour

I LOVE watching Parkour, I found it so fascinating. My problem is that I am not sporty in the slightest, so this one would not be easy for me to learn! Reading about all the cool stuff that Olly could do in Everything Everything, and how easy he found it filled me with envy!

>>>

TTT Writes Poetry

I used to write poetry a lot back when I was in high school, but haven’t really wrote much since. I love the concept of Slam poetry (like in Slammed) and would definitely go to a ‘slam’ if there was one nearby where I live. I love Will’s poetry in Slammed, and the entire trilogy, and wish so much that I could write like him.

>>>

TTT Fighting Skills

My Review
Is it weird to say that I have always wanted to punch someone?! But also just to have that ability to be able to protect yourself and kick ass by just using your own hands & body. That would be cool. Both West and Haley are so kick ass in this book, major green monster of jealousy every time I read this one!

>>>

TTT Makes Clothes

I am a really creative person. I love making things, but so far my clothes making skills are severely lacking. Even the barbie dolls that I have made clothes for don’t look very impressed with me. I would love to be asked where I bought my dress from and to be able to say that I made it! Lola makes some incredible creations in this book, and even though her clothes are sometimes mocked, I totally love them and would LOVE to be able to make my own!

>>>

TTT Rock Climbing

My Review
Another sport I wish I could do! I have no strength in my upper body, so don’t see this one happening any time soon! Hearing about all the mountains Ryke climbs throughout the entire Addicted/Calloway Sisters series made me realise just how cool it would be to have this skill and some of the amazing places and sights he sees that I would love to see.

>>>

TTT Car Skills

My Review
So this is a double one, because the car skills refer to both racing and mechanical. Being able to actually understand my car (and not just how to turn the radio on!) would be really cool. Also, I’m a bit of a nut for car racing films, like the fast and the furious, and so would love to be able to be so good at driving that I could race. I loved reading about Rachel and Isiah in Crash Into You and their obsession with all things car!

>>>

TTT Speak Foreign Language

My Review
When I look back on my high school French and Spanish lessons I realise how much I wasted the opportunity to learn another language. Now, I would love to have that skill, I’m always so jealous of people who can speak more than one language. I really love the way that Rose and Connor flirt and banter in French (and other languages) in the Addicted series, I would love to have that ‘secret language’ with someone.

>>>

TTT Song Writing

My Review
I would love to improve my piano skills (which are pretty dismal as I haven’t played properly in 10 years), and to be able to write my own music. I love Adam’s passion for music in If I stay, and I would love to have that again.

>>>

TTT Magic

Ok, so I cheated. This one might not be realistic, but no one can deny that they wouldn’t love to go to Hogwarts and improve their magic skills!

…..

What do you think of my choices this week? What characters skills are you envious of?

What’s on your list this week?

I love this list. I agree with magic for sure even though it is beyond the realm of realistic. Sign language is awesome. I wish I would have taken the chance to learn more when I had the chance. πŸ™
    Thanks for sharing!

Sign language is something that I think kids should get a chance to learn in school along with first aid and practical stuff like tax forms! We got a whole year of a class called Liberal studies where for one hour a week it was ‘how to read exam papers’. For a whole year!!! The joke was, we’d already done exams the previous year so it was a bit late by then…

Such a good idea! I have been saying that about First Aid in schools for years, people forget how important a skill it is to have until it is needed. Your liberal studies classes sound just as bad as our PHSE classes, they were stupid too! Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚

Hiya Hannah, new follower here! I like the topic you’ve chosen, I think out of them all the obvious one I’d like to have is Magic! πŸ™‚

Great list! Here’s my TTT if you would like to check it out πŸ™‚ Have a great day!

    • Brocs Bookcase

Hi Emma, always nice to meet a new follower. Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚ Magic would most definitely be an amazing skill to have, I would love to go to Hogwarts! πŸ™‚ Happy reading!!!

  4. Sue Holmes

What a clever idea! I would love to speak other languages fluently, especially sign language… I am not very good at remembering any words I have been taught! As for magic… if only!

Haha me too! I’m fine if I am using it, but once I stop using sign language or speaking in that different language then I totally forget it! Oh dear! Thanks for stopping by, happy reading! πŸ™‚

    • Brocs Bookcase

Nothing beats magic! I love your choice of topic, I never even considered that one! πŸ™‚

  5. Leia Ann

What a great idea for a list! I’d also definitely love to learn Sign Language (although here it would be SASL), and I loved the Slammed series. I wish I could write slam poetry, but I guess it’s just too raw and real for me to be comfortable with.

    Great list!

    • Brocs Bookcase

Thanks! Sign Language has been something I have wanted to be able to do FOREVER! Maybe one day I will actually get round to leanring it properly! Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading πŸ™‚

  6. Tori @InToriLex

Awesome Post!! I definitely want to learn sign one day, and have hit a few poetry slams in my day. This reminded me of how I wish I had more time to do everything I want in a day. Check out my Top Ten Tuesday

    • Brocs Bookcase

Wow, I would love to go to a poetry slam. I must check out places nearby and see if there are any! Thanks for stopping by, happy reading πŸ™‚

  7. Chrissi Reads

I would love to be able to use sign language! I know bits and pieces but not too many signs. Skilled characters are awesome.

  8. Megz

Such a cool list! I would love to do Parkour as well (and I still have to read and review that book, too). Definitely agree with magic! I do have some fighting skills at least, after doing karate for a long time. πŸ™‚

  9. Mandy

I love your list!!!! Such a great idea. I don’t know though if I would want to rock climb but I’m personally afraid of heights. However I think Will could help me with my poetry. Thanks so much for sharing your list. Have a great week, and happy reading!! My TT

    • Brocs Bookcase

Ooo no, I love heights! And just think of all the gorgeous sights you would get to see! Thanks for stopping by, happy reading! πŸ™‚

  10. C.J. @ebookclassics

What a great theme! I think if I could pick one skill, it would definitely be speaking another language like French. Multiple languages would be a dream come true for me.

    • Brocs Bookcase

I would love to be fluent, I am always so jealous of people that are! Thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

I guess I didn’t visit the first time this was posted. What a great topic! I’d have to really stop and think to complete this topic.
