Top Ten Tuesday – Top Ten Fairytale Retellings I Want To Read

August 4, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 17

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish. Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

Fairytales! Who doesn’t love a good fairy tale in which good triumphs over evil and the princess falls in love with the handsome prince and they all live happily ever after! Ok, so it gets a bit predictable after a while, which is why retellings are just so good!

I’m always saying about how much I love retellings but when I actually looked into it, I haven’t read that many. (totally shameful  know!) So instead I have decided to tell you all the ones that I do want to read…

Cinder (Goodreads) >><< Scarlet (Goodreads) >><< Cress (Goodreads)
This is the one I am mot ashamed of not reading yet, and I know that there are more then these three books in the series, but these are the three that I own so I am going with them! I am forever reading reviews of these books and once I have got them back from the friend I lent them to, I will be making them a priority!

Cruel Beauty (Goodreads) >><< Crimson Bound (Goodreads)
Both standalones, but both inspired by fairytales. I have had Cruel Beauty on my bookshelf for so long and every time I read the description for it I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. Crimson bound also just looks so good and I really want to immerse myself in this land described on the back cover. But mostly I want it on my bookshelf looking totally gorgeous next to Cruel Beauty. Such pretty books!

Ash and Bramble (Goodreads)
Not released yet, but I can see there is going to be a lot of people desperate to get their hands on this one. A retelling of Cinderella but in a slightly different and, it looks like, darker way. Plus the kind of story that shows that girls don’t need handsome princes to rescue them and give them their happily every after. Sounds like she is preparing us for real life!

Hold Me Like A Breath (Goodreads)
A main character with an autoimmune disorder that causes her to bruise so easily… can you guess the fairytale? The Princess and the Pea! Such a clever idea for a retelling, and I also really like that the main characte is part of a crime family, so it’s like fairy tales gone bad! I have been wanting to read this one for a while but just keep forgetting! Isn’t the cover gorgeous though.

Mechanica (Goodreads)
I guess this one is going to be on a lot of lists this week as it is probably one of the most highly anticipated retellings of this month. A retelling of Cinderella but with an inventors daughter as our main character, I am so excited to get my hands on a copy and immerse myself in this fantasy world.

A Court of Thorns and Roses (Goodreads)
I’ve never really had a love for books featuring faerie lore but add a retelling on Beauty and the Beast into the mix, with a couple of dashes of other fairytales and it becomes something a lot more interesting! I just bought myself a copy of this one, so will hopefully reading it soon!

Tiger Lily (Goodreads)
I really love Peter Pan, and I have heard nothing but amazing things about this retelling from the POV of Tiger Lily. Apparently it gets a bit emotional, which sounds PERFECT for me. Plus, look how gorgeous that cover is!

Have you read any of these books?

What is on your list this week?

I have a few of these on my list as well. And I totally forgot about those Peter Pan ones. I have two other Peter Pan books on my list. I love that story, so I’d read any retelling of it. Great list!

Ooooo I need more Peter Pan retellings. Love Peter Pan!

  2. Cait @ Paper Fury

AHHHH *Flails at all these fabulous books* I’ve read Tiger Lily, ACOTAR and The Lunar Chronicles and they’re all absolutely fantastic. Although I think The Lunar Chronicles are the most amazing ones of this bunch…they’re just so complex and incredible. *happy sigh* I am desperate to read Mechanica and Ash & Brambles (doesn’t need a man to save her?! Please. Sign me up) and ohhh I’ve heard SUCH good things about Crimson Bound! 😀

  3. Beks @ Novel Dreams

As someone who has read (and absolutely freaking loved) Cinder, it definitely comes highly recommended from me. I haven’t yet read the others in the series – shame on me – but I would definitely suggest reading the first. It’s so unique and fun.

I, too, own Cruel Beauty and have no idea why I haven’t read it yet. It sounds so amazing. I think we’re just silly 😛

ACOTAR and Tiger Lily are also on my wishlist. Sarah J. Maas is such an incredible author and I absolutely love Beauty & The Beast. I’ve also heard some amazing things about Tiger Lily, so hopefully this Peter Pan story will capture my interest. I <3 Tinkerbell 😛

Thanks for the recs! Beks @ Novel Dreams

Well, at least you started the series. You are already doing better then me! I just gt my copies back from my friend so I am determined that by the end of this summer I will be all caught up on the Lunar Chronicles!
Haha, glad to know I’m not the only stupid person who hasn’t read Cruel Beauty yet!
Thanks for stopping by, happy reading! 🙂

  4. Lillian @ Mom With a Reading Problem

Great list!!! Love the Lunar Chronicles, ANYTHING by Rosamund Hodge and ACOTAR! All of them are so good 🙂 Cruel Beauty and Crimson Bound are so dark and delicious though. They may be my favorite reads this year!

I haven’t read any of the others in your list but I’m getting grabby hands just looking at the covers and your descriptions!

Had never heard of “Hold Me Like A Breath” but someone else mentioned it too – adding to my TBR list! My TTT list

  6. Literary Feline

At least you aren’t alone in not having read the Lunar Chronicles yet. 🙂 I’m looking forward to the series when I get to it. Hopefully soonish. Mechanica does look good doesn’t it? I hope it is. Tiger Lily is a new one to me, but definitely one I’ve added to my wish list today. Here’s to many great books in our future!

I always like meeting fellow ‘I haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles either’ people. I feel less alone as a bookworm failure! I am SO excited for Mechanica! Happy reading! 🙂

  7. Kayla @ The Thousand Lives

Your first two are some of my favorites, minus Cruel Beauty. For some reason I’m not a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast retellings, but Crimson Bound is definitely a favorite from this year so far 🙂

    • Brocs Bookcase

I MUST read Crimson Bound! I hate that it is a book that I am really excited to read but just haven’t! Why not?! Because I’m stupid!

  8. Genesis @ Latte Nights Reviews

I need to read ACOTAR! I didn’t know that Cruel Beauty and Crimson Bound was a retelling. This is why these posts are needed. I’ll be adding a couple to my TBR soon. (Thanks for adding the links to Goodreads!)

  9. Katrina

Don’t panic! Those three books in The Lunar Chronicles that you own are ACTUALLY the only ones out currently, ‘Winter’ won’t be released until the end of this year! They are fantastic though, you should read them! 😀 I should have put Tiger Lily on my list too, it looks like such a good one!

Thanks for checking out my Top Ten Tuesday list!

Also, last chance to enter my giveaway!

I am determined to have read the ones currently out before Winter is released, and then I am all caught up and up to date! 🙂 It does, doesn’t it? I love Peter Pan, so excited for this retelling 🙂
