The Stupidity of My TBR!

March 12, 2015 Let's Chat 7

So today I am sad. Because this morning I logged onto my NetGalley account all ready to FINALLY read that book that had been sat there on my shelf for a while (and on my TBR for even longer!), but I hadn’t gotten round to reading yet because there were all those other books that needed to be read before it (the impulse buys that turn out to be Not So Good to put it politely!). So there I am, ready to download it and then the worst thing ever happens: I find out it’s been archived!

I really am so mad at myself because I have all these totally amazing books just sat on my shelves (both virtual and physical) waiting for me to read them, but for some stupid reason I keep reading all the not so good books first (free kindle books from amazon are my downfall!!!), which results in very bad days like today!

My TBR is FULL to the brim (current count 630!) of incredible books that I add and then totally forget about. Even worse then that my bookshelves are full with more incredible books that I have bought/been bought but have not read yet!

I’ve tried to be really good recently at not accepting loads of review books because last year I hardly read anything I actually wanted to read because I got so over excited by the thought of free books! I thought I was doing better, but apparently this year I have just replaced my free review books with free amazon kindle books!

Some of the AWESOME but Unread Books my Shelves Currently Contain (feel free to judge!)…

I got both of these books for Christmas, that is an ENTIRE 3 months ago! Both of them have such amazing reviews AND people keep recommending them to me and I am always so embarrassed to say that I have them but I just haven’t read them yet!

Yes, that’s right: The Lunar Chronicles. All three of them, in pristine condition, sat neatly on my book shelf just waiting to be read! I know from the countless reviews I have read and things I have been told about this series that I am going to LOVE it. But still I have not read it yet!

I got both of these for my birthday in October last year. That’s nearly 6 months ago, that half of a year!!!!! I actually attempted to start reading We Were Liars a little while ago. I made the brave decision to take it off my shelf and put it in my bag for all those times I am sat around waiting for something and so could be reading. Instead I carried it round in my bag for about a month, slightly scuffed up the corner of it and then put it back on my shelf!

I bought this in December as a pre Christmas present to read over the holiday season. Apparently the book is set around the Christmas/New Year time so I thought it would be the perfect read. Now I don’t know whether to read it now or wait until next Christmas/New Year, although the way my reading is going it will probably be Christmas when I finally got round to reading it anyway! What do you think? Seasonal read or any time of the year read?

And now to the Gayle Foreman books. I’ve had Just One Day for waaaaay longer then I can even remember, but I don’t feel as guilty because it’s sat next to I Was Here which I only got on Sunday (when I met Gayle Foreman!) and so is BRAND NEW and SIGNED!

What books are you totally embarrassed to have, still unread, sitting on your bookshelves?

Is your TBR totally out of control too?

Hope you get to read The Lunar Chronicles soon. The series is amazing. I have so many books that I haven’t got around to yet. Eek!

Me too! I’ve been saying it for so long, but I really do want to read them soon! Good luck with your list!

I know exactly what you mean about the tbr. I have series that I started and loved sitting unfinished while I read free zombie books that someone wrote in 5 minutes which turns out to be complete rubbish! I have the mentality of ‘save the good books for later’ and try to read what I might enjoy less to clear more off the huge tbr quicker. I had to do a book cull on the freebies when my tbr of books I own hit 950 in September! Deleting what I didn’t need, reading all the short stories and finishing series where I had 2 or 3 books left in it were priority and I’m now down to 533 to read which is better. I still have a lot of books to read and I get twitchy thinking about all the things I want to read next!

Oooo well done! That is quite the accomplishment. I think I am going to do a spring clean of mine. My problem seems to be that I add books to the list and then totally forget about them until a year later when I see the book somewhere and think ‘ooo that looks good, I should add it to my tbr’ and then discover that it has been there for a year! You have defiantly inspired me to do some culling though! 🙂

I will not judge you for not reading Lunar chronicles yet as I only just now started reading them myself 😉 Gayle Forman is still on my TBR, I grabbed one of her books a while back when it was free on Kindle. I also haven’t read The Selection series yet (((hangs head in shame))) even though I own it. And let’s not go into my TMI collection I got for Christmas… least they look pretty in my bookshelf 😉

Oh good, at least I’m not the only one! Yes, I have a very pretty but untouched bookshelf too! I hope you get round to reading The Selection series soon, I just checked my TBR and it’s been on their for 2 whole years, oh dear!
