August 22, 2017 Reading 0

I love book quotes! I have a quote wall in my bedroom and it grows more and more with every book I read. I have read some fabulous books this year all of which were crammed with deliciously powerful (or funny) quotes. Check out my 33 favourites…

Bookish Words and Wisdoms #1

May 19, 2016 Bookish Words & Wisdoms 0

Ok, so I’m a little bit of a quote junkie. I have quotes on my goodreads, dozens of quote notebooks and my bedroom walls are full of scraps of paper with bookish quotes on them. For me there is nothing as magical as finding that perfect quote that just makes you feel so inspired. I am constantly finding new and interesting quotes from books that I’ve never read before and it always makes me pick up the book and give it a go.

So that’s why I’ve decided to start this new feature ‘Bookish Words & Wisdoms’ in which every so often I will share one of my favourite quotes with you, and hopefully inspire you to try something new.

As this week is Mental Health Awareness week I thought it was only fitting to chose a quote to match.

Quote ATBP J.Niven

This quote comes from All the Bright Places, an extraordinary debut from Jennifer Niven. The book is, well emotional, and contains some beautifully written characters who battle with their own struggles and mental health.

I think it’s impossible to not know someone with mental health problems in the world today, and someone close to me has told me something very similar to this quote about their own struggles with mental health illnesses.

Mental health is still something that comes with a stigma attached to it and with the “what have you got to be unhappy about” or “just smile, you’ll feel better soon” responses from people who just don’t fully understand it.

This quote reminded me of how much further we have to go in our battle against Mental Health stigma, and just how much support our friends, family and work colleagues who suffer with mental illness need from us.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Quotes From This Year

November 17, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 16

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

I love quotes. I have an entire wall in my bedroom dedicated to my favourite quotes and it is full of them! This weeks topic was hard because I am such a quote junkie that only picking ten would have been impossible, so naturally I went over! (But only by a little bit!) Below are the quotes that inspired me, made me laugh and made me cry…

TTT Never Never Quote

Never Never
I loved this book and there so many good quotes in it (and in Never Never Part 2 as well) but this one has to be my favourite. It totally gave me butterflies when I read it.

>><<

TTT Souls Unfractured Quote

Souls Unfractured
A Tillie Cole book always gives me a mountain of quotes but this one is my favourite from Souls Unfractured. It’s one of those quotes that actually means something and it also comes at a very powerful part of the book.

>><<

TTT Sweet Hope Quote

Sweet Hope
Another beautiful quote that is so true. If there is one thing that Tillie Cole excels at it is taking something broken and making it beautiful, especially in her characters.

>><<

TTT Invincible Summer Quote

Invincible Summer
I LOVE this quote from Seth King. Like everyone else, I’ve struggled at times, and it’s quotes like this that bring me out of it and make me think about how incredible life is.

>><<

TTT Kaleidoscope Hearts Quote

Kaleidoscope Hearts
Another one that made my big wall of quotes. I’m a great believe in fate and karma and that everything happens for a reason, so this quote couldn’t be more true to me.

>><<

TTT My Heart Quotes

My Heart and Other Black Holes
This book was emotional and totally heartbreaking and this quote really struck a chord with me. There are times when everything can get a bit tough and at these times I usually end up curled up in my bed feeling very sorry for myself. I have this quote right next to my bed and it is the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning. It reminds me that I can beat anything.

>><<

TTT Winners Curse Quote

The Winners Curse
There were so many smart quotes from the first two books in Rutkoski’s Winner’s trilogy, but I think I like this one best. I love the ability that books have to make us believe in the unbelievable, it’s the whole magic of them and the reason I love them so much.

>><<

TTT Reap Quote

Reap
This one was a swoony one. I can’t reconmend this book enough and when you get to this quote you will understand why I picked it!

>><<

TTT Fuel the Fire Quote

Fuel the Fire
I really like this quote because it is so relevant to the world today. Who cares if you are attracted to girls, boys or both. If you like boys who dress or as girls or girls who dress up as boys. If the person that you are attracted to is smart or dumb or beautiful or ugly. People are people, the details don’t matter. This quote speaks true to that and it’s why I love it.

>><<

TTT Scarlet Quote

Scarlet
Ok, so I picked this one purely because it made me laugh. I was trying to read the book really sneaky in work and was doing such a good job until I got to this quote and burst out laughing and then had to confess to everyone in the office that I had been reading!

>><<

TTT November 9 Quote

November 9
Another swoony quote. I just recently read this book and it was well worth the wait! So many swoony moments (followed by lots of heartbreaking moments!) but this quote was just perfect!

Which movies did you choose for this week?

What do you think of my choices? Have you watched/are excited for any of these?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten (Thirteen!) Inspirational Quotes

April 14, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 12

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

This weeks topic made me both VERY happy and VERY sad. Happy because I LOVE quotes, sad because no way would I ever be able to chose just ten! I may get a little bit deep at times, just to pre-warn you, as my favourite quotes are the ones that help me through the bad times.

So, here we go…

“It’s impossible to go through life unscathed. Nor should you want to. By the hurts we accumulate, we measure both our follies and our accomplishments.”

Inheritance – Christopher Paolini
This quote has been on my wall for quite a while, and I always seem to find myself reading it whenever something goes wrong or I mess up. I have learnt from many of the mistakes I have made it my life, and this quote always reminds me of that exactly when I need it to.

>>>

“There are so many ways to be brave in this world…Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life. That is the sort of bravery I must have now.”

Veronica Roth, Allegiant
Everyone goes through hard times. We loose people we love, we get hurt, we get given bad news…and the bravest thing we can do is learn to pick ourselves back up and carry on. This quote reminds me of that.
(This quote has been cut slightly, just in case you are thinking it looks a little small)

>>>

“Sometimes it’s the little things that count most.”

Alexandra Adornetto, Halo
Something that has been proved to me time and time again.

>>>

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”

J.K.Rowling, Harry Potter
When I was a kid I had so many dreams: I wanted to be a Spice Girl, I wanted to marry a Prince, I wanted a pet unicorn! Letting go of childhood dreams is easy, but as you grow up (and have more realistic dreams) it gets to let them go and move on with life in a different direction. It’s not easy to say goodbye to your dreams, but I guess they make space for new ones.

>>>

“I will be stronger than my sadness.”

Jasmine Warga, My Heart and Other Black Holes
I went through a period last year in which I really struggled. It took me a little while (and a whole lot of help) to get myself back on my feet. This year I read My Heart and Other Black Holes and upon reading this quote I immediately grabbed a pen and a piece of paper, wrote it down and stuck it next to my bed. Now when I wake up it’s the first thing I see.

>>>

“Life’s supposed to be a little hard. If your life is too easy, you’re doing it wrong.”

Seth King, The Summer Remains
This one just emphasises the motto I live my life by: Everything happens for a reason, both the good and the bad.

>>>

“People are rarely as attractive in reality as they are in the eyes of the people who are in love with them. Which is, I suppose, as it should be.”

David Levithan, Every Day
This one made me laugh as I remembered many a conversation I have had on girls nights out when we are gossiping about someone who is dating someone who in our opinion is just not good looking at all. The question “Does she/he really think he/she is hot?” comes up a lot, and this quote definitely answers that.

>>>

“You can live your whole life not realizing that what you’re looking for is right in front of you.”

David Nicholls, One Day
I have always tried to pay attention to my life and the people and opportunities in it, determined not to miss out on anything that could potentially be amazing. I say this, but it took me months of serving the same guy at the bar that I worked at for me to actually realise that I like him and do something about it!

>>>

“The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again when you fall”

Vince Lombardi (Tillie Cole), Sweet Rome
This one may be a cheat, but I don’t care because it is one of my most favourite! Technically it was Vince Lombardi, a football coach, who said this. But Tillie put it in her book, so I’m counting it as a literary quote!

>>>

“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.”

André Gide, Autumn Leaves
I hate fake people (really, what’s the point?!), and so in the theme of honesty I’m going to tell you that I have never read this book. Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s French, so even if I tried to read it, I wouldn’t get far. But as I was searching around Goodreads for some of my favourite bookish quotes, this one popped up on my ‘quote for the day’ and I just knew that it had to make my list.

>>>

“A home is not a place. It’s not a country or a town or a building or possession. Home is with the other half of your soul, the person who shares in your grief and helps you carry the burden of loss. Home is with the person who throughout it all never gives up on you and brings you eternal happiness.”

Tillie Cole, Sweet Home
I love this quote, and I can tell you now that when I own my own house in the future, this is going in a frame and will be the first thing you see when you walk in my front door.

>>>

“It’s amazing that a man who is dead can talk to people through these pages. As long as this books survives, his ideas live.”

Christopher Paolini, Eragon
I love this quote. It shows the power of books, it makes me happy that something I could read today can be read and experienced again in 100 years and that person could be feeling the exact same things as me. I just find that thought amazing, slightly overwhelming, but just so amazing at the same time.

>>>

“A toast… to taking a chance, because that chance taken may be the very path that leads you to your happily ever after.”

Tillie Cole, Sweet Hope
I’m all for taking chances, there are so many amazing things that I could have missed out on in my life if I hadn’t have had the courage to take a chance on them.

What’s on your list this week?

Sunday Funday: Love Quotes

February 15, 2015 Sunday Funday 4

Sunday Funday Logo

The weekend is almost over, which means back to work tomorrow for most of us. So to cheer you up (and myself) I am going to be giving you a little bit of bookish fun every Sunday, to make the end of the weekend that little bit easier!

So Valentines is over *sob* but there is still a whole lot of love filled posts to come as we are only half way through my February Love-A-Thon!!!

This week I am all about those love-y things people in books say to each other and about each other which make us SWOON!

(to check out reviews & buy links for the books click on the titles under the quotes)

“Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.”
– A Walk to Remember (Nicholas Sparks)

“The moment my lips touch yours, it will be your first kiss. Because if you’ve never felt anything when someone’s kissed you, then no one’s ever really kissed you. Not the way I plan on kissing you.”
– Hopeless (Colleen Hoover)

“My body recognises you as something that’s good for me. My mind recognises you as someone who’s right for me, and my soul recognises you as someone who is meant for me.”
– Sweet Rome (Tillie Cole)

“I might be in love with you.” He smiles a little. “I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.”
– Divergent (Veronica Roth)

“The parts of me that I love the most are the parts that belong to her.”
– Addicted After All (Krista & Becca Ritchie)

“I’m saying I’m in love with you! I’ve been in love with you this whole bleeding year!”
– Anna and the French Kiss (Stephanie Perkins)

“You’re looking at me like you fell in love with me.”
“I didn’t fall in love with you. I flew.”
– Ugly Love (Colleen Hoover)

“I used to look up at the stars and feel so small and unimportant. But I’ve come to realise that the only thing that can ever make you feel alive and important is the one person who takes you for you.”
– Sweet Fall (Tillie Cole)

I feel in love the way you fall asleep: slow, and then all at once.”
– The Fault In Our Stars (John Green)

“Love is like the wind, you can’t see it but you can feel it.”
– A Walk to Remember (Nicholas Sparks)

“I’m Tetris Silas. All my pieces and parts are going to fit into all of your pieces and parts.”
– Never Never (Colleen Hoover)

“A home is not a place. It’s not a country or a town or a building or possession. Home is with the other half of your soul, the person who shares in your grief and helps you carry the burden of loss. Home is with the person who throughout it all never gives up on you and brings you eternal happiness.”
– Sweet Home (Tillie Cole)

“I love you,” he says again, “and no other man will ever say those words and mean them the way I do.”
– Ricochet (Krista & Becca Ritchie)

“You lit me up like Vegas”
– Finding Sky (Joss Stirling)

“There’s a girl, Dad.”
He smiled a bit. “A girl.”
“She kinda hates me, and I kinda…”
“Love her?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think so. I mean…how do you know?”
His smile grew wider. “When you’re talking about her with your old dad because you don’t know what else to do.”
– Walking Disaster (Jamie McGuire)

“That must be love: when everything else in the world could implode and you wouldn’t care as long as you had that one person standing beside you.”
– Dare You To (Katie McGarry)

“Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame.”
– Through The Ever Night (Veronica Rossi)

“They were always meant to be together, one boy and one girl, two hearts split into two, sent to far-off lands on their own. For God wanted to see if true love could be tested. He wanted to see if two halves of one soul could find each other again, even against the odds. Years would pass. They would both be hurt. They would both be sad, but one day, when they least expected it, they would stumble into each other’s paths. The question is: would they recognize each other’s soul? And would they find their way back to love…?”
– Raze (Tillie Cole)

“There’s no story,’ I say. ‘I saw you one day, and I just knew.”
– Isla and the Happily Ever After (Stephanie Perkins)

“There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.”
– City of Glass (Cassandra Clare)

“You deserve someone who loves you with every single beat of his heart, someone who thinks about you constantly, someone who spends every minute of every day just wondering what you’re doing, where you are, who you’re with, and if you’re OK. You need someone who can help you reach your dreams and protect you from your fears. You need someone who will treat you with respect, love every part of you, especially your flaws. You should be with someone who could make you happy, really happy, dancing on air happy.”
– Where Rainbows End/Love, Rosie (Cecelia Ahern)

“I’m not sure what kind of love you mean, baby, but if you mean do I want you to be with me forever, that I can’t bear the thought of being without you as my lover, my best friend, my whole world….one day my wife, and my baby mama, then yes, I Love you, Love you!”
– Emerge (S.E.Hall)

“I chose love—I chose you over everything that was offered to me.”
– Goddess (Josephine Angelini)

“Luke used to give me butterflies. Noah spawned mutant pterodactyls.”
– Pushing the Limits (Katie McGarry)

“Look at Ron and Hermione. Obstacles everywhere. But did Hermione give up on Ron when he was dating Lavender Brown? Did Ron give up on Hermione when he was knocking about with that Bulgarian Quidditch bloke? Did they let the pressure of tracking down the final few Horcruxes tear them apart? No. All the drama they went through made it all the more poignant when they finally got together.”
– Lobsters (Tom Ellen & Lucy Ivison)

“What I was trying to say,” he whispered, “is that I see you in everything. There isn’t a word for you that means enough, because you’re everything to me.”
– Into the Still Blue (Veronica Rossi)

“Love is the one thing in this world worth taking a risk for. When you’re older and you look back on the life you lived, you won’t regret the fact that you took the chance to love someone. But you will regret the chances on love you didn’t take. Especially the ones rooted in fear. They’re only scary because you have the most to lose. You feel the most for them. Don’t let the fear of losing love stop you from having the experience altogether.”
– The Sweetest Game (J.Sterling)

“It is like a piece of my soul had been lost, empty, and it is now filled with the light of a million stars.”
– Across the Universe (Beth Revis)

“Love, it never dies. It never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it. Love can make you immortal”
– If I Stay (Gayle Foreman)

“Love is so painful, how could you ever wish it on anybody? And love is so essential, how could you ever stand in its way?”
– Two Boys Kissing (David Levithan)

“You didn’t just fall in love with him once. You fall in love with him every time you look at him.”
– Goddess (Josephine Angelini)

“Choice or no, my heart is his.”
– A Million Suns (Beth Revis)

“Love was like the waves in the sea, gentle and good sometimes, rough and terrible at others, but that it was endless and stronger than the sky and earth and everything in between.”
– Through the Ever Night (Veronica Rossi)

“And now I’m looking at you,” he said, “and you’re asking me if I still want you, as if I could stop loving you. As if I would want to give up the thing that makes me stronger than anything else ever has. I never dared give much of myself to anyone before – bits of myself to the Lightwoods, to Isabelle and Alec, but it took years to do it – but, Clary, since the first time I saw you, I have belonged to you completely. I still do. If you want me.”
– City of Glass (Cassandra Clare)

“I know you aren’t perfect. But it’s a person’s imperfections that make them perfect for someone else.”
– Lola and The Boy Next Door (Stephanie Perkins)

“But remember this if nothing else: I love you more than there are words or stars. I love you more than there are thoughts and feelings. I love you more than there are seconds or moments gone or to come. I love you.”
Checkmate (Malorie Blackman)

“You love me. Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real.”
– Mockingjay (Suzanne Collins)

Sunday Funday: Quotes #1

November 17, 2013 Sunday Funday 3

Sunday Funday Logo

The weekend is almost over, which means back to work tomorrow for most of us. So to cheer you up (and myself) I am going to be giving you a little bit of bookish fun every Sunday, to make the end of the weekend that little bit easier!

This week has been an extremely sleepy one for me. Me and my two sisters got back from Vegas on Monday so have been trying to get over the jet lag whilst working everyday. It was not fun, which is why I have loved chilling out this weekend so much and why I am not looking forward to being back in work tomorrow!

.
This week, it’s all about quotes, because I love them so much and I currently have a whole host of them taking over the walls in my bedroom! These are the ten that currently stand out to me for various reasons.
.
Why not take some time out of your Sunday to think of your favorite quotes and why they are important to you? Write them down and stick them on your wall, or put them in a quote book so you can look at them anytime.
.
Any good ones, please leave them in a comment. I’m always on the look out for more good book quotes!

10.

9.

“Sometimes it’s the little things that count most.”
Halo – Alexandra Adornetto
Something that has been proved to me time and time again.

8.

“I must have killed a lot of cows in a past life for Karma to hate me this much.”
Pushing the Limits – Katie McGarry
I often find myself thinking, “Why does it always have to happen to me?” This quote is on my wall for those moments, to make me laugh through the bad times.

7.

“People are rarely as attractive in reality as they are in the eyes of the people who are in love with them. Which is, I suppose, as it should be.”
Every Day – David Levithan
This one made me laugh as I remembered many a conversation I have had on girls nights when we are gossiping about someone who is dating someone who in our opinion is just not good looking at all. The question “Does she/he really think he/she is hot?” comes up a lot, and this quote definitely answers that.

6.

“You can live your whole life not realizing that what you’re looking for is right in front of you.”
One Day – David Nicholls
Since finding the truth in this quote by finally realising that something that had been in front of me for years was what I wanted, I have always tried to pay attention to my life and the people and opportunities in it, determined not to miss out on anything that could potentially be amazing.

5.

“I don’t remember Romeo being this pushy with Juliet!”…..He arched his eyebrows meaningfully. “And look at how that worked out for them. My way is better—less death, more orgasms.”
Sweet Home – Tillie Cole
This quote makes my list (and bedroom wall) simply because it made me laugh. I was reading this book whilst on a plane, it was night and most people where starting to fall asleep. I, like a good little book nerd, was reading, and when I got to this part literally laughed out loud and didn’t stop for about 5 minutes. I got some strange looks, but even better I had a lot of people who looked over to me and seeing me laughing like an idiot made them smile. Laughter and happiness are contagious, and every time I see this quote it reminds me of that moment on the plane, and reminds me to smile.

4.

“I want you to be with me in the dark. To hold me. To keep loving me. To help me when I get scared. To come right to the edge and see what’s there.”
Before I Die – Jenny Downham
It’s hard to describe why this quote means so much to me. I guess it’s about love really. ‘Before I Die’ is about a teenage girl with terminal cancer and the boy next door who she falls in love with and who in turn falls in love with her. He asks her what she wants from him and she replies with this and it just completely took my breath away. I don’t really have an explanation any more then that. It’s love, in its most rawest and beautiful form.

3.

“Books so special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like a betrayal.”
The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
Upon reading this quote it made me so happy that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. There have been numerous times when I have read a book that I have loved, but just couldn’t share it with people. I was torn between wanting to show people this masterpiece and wanting to keep it all to myself. Having this quote on my wall reminds me that I’m not the only crazy person in the world who feels this way!

2.

“Words are, in my most humble opinion, our most in exhausted source of magic”
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – J.K.Rowling
Words really are magic to me, it sounds cheesy I know, but I am constantly amazed at the effect they can have. Words can bring you to tears, can make you laugh like an idiot or have you beaming with happiness. They can take you to worlds you could have never imagined, introduce you to people you fall in love with and take you on journeys that will live with you forever. Words, to me really are magical and this quote reminds me, as a reader and a writer, just how important they are to me.

1.

“I suppose a fire that burns that bright is not meant to last.”
Allegiant – Veronica Roth
This quote makes number one on my list because of all the books I have read in my lifetime, this one sentence affected me the most. This quote appears at a very emotional moment in the book and it completely broke me. A few days later once I had calmed down I was writing a review fo the book and was looking for quotes. Once I saw this one I was immediately taken back to that emtional place I had been put in by the book and was a complete mess for the next 20 minutes. Even now, nearly a month later, seeing this quote still effects me. As with the quote for number two, it reminds me just how powerful words are. People laugh at me for reading too much and for crying at books, but the power behind those 13 words blows me away every time I read them and reminds me how important words are in my life.
.
So, theres my top quotes for the moment. I feel like I got a little deep there at the end, sorry! But what can I say, I really love quotes.
.
“Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh and cry and find meaning in life.”

So give it a go. Take some time out of your day and find your top quotes. Then write them on a piece of paper and stick them around your house, so that every time you see them you get to remember why it is that you love them!

Enjoy your Sunday and have an excellent week!
