YALC 2016

August 4, 2016 Bookish Events 2

This weekend was the 3rd annual Young Adult Literature Convention in London, and my 3rd year of attending and I have to say…it was the best one yet! Every May us non US-ers watch our twitter/facebook feeds in awe as BEA takes over, so YALC is our smaller version and our chance to make everyone else jealous too!

I decided to try and read a bunch of the YALC books for authors attending about a month ago and I am happy to say that I managed 10 in the end and discovered a bunch of new authors who I LOVE and so was super excited to meet.

The Authors

I carried a ton of books all the way to YALC this year, which really hurt my back, but was totally worth it because I got to get all of my books signed, and a few more which I bought whist I was there!

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Have Read the Most Books From

August 11, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 20

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish. Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

Like everyone I have my go-to authors who I absolutely love, but I have also been finding a lot recently that my reading has been spreading out a lot more and I’m reading more from lots of different authors, which although doesn’t help much with this list makes me happy because it means I’m getting to read loads of different and new stuff.

Tillie Cole (8)

I adore Tillie Cole, and don’t even need to read the blurb to know that I am going to read her next book. She gives me such feels with her beautiful yet heart breaking stories. And that is what I love about her writing and why I keep going back to it. She isn’t afraid of the tough topics and she handles them beautifully.

Sweet Home . Sweet Rome . Sweet Fall . Sweet Hope . Raze
It Ain’t Me Babe . Heart Recaptured . Souls Unfractured

J.K.Rowling (7)

The Harry Potter books will always hold a very special place in my heart, as will J.K.Rowling for creating the incredible world that I have fallen in love with. Pure Magic!

Harry Potter & the Philosophers StoneHarry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire . Harry Potter & Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter & the Half Blood PrinceHarry Potter & the Deathly Hallows

Malorie Blackman (6)

Malorie Blackman’s ‘Noughts and Crosses’ was the first ever YA book I ever read, and also the first book that ever made me cry. And I loved it so much that I demolished the rest of her books that I have been able to get my hands on.

Noughts and Crosses
Knife Edge . Checkmate . Double Cross . Callum . Boys Don’t Cry

Cassandra Clare (6)

I am obsessed with Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter world, and I see myself reading a hell of a lot more of it in the upcoming months/years. So far I’ve only managed The Mortal Instruments and they were so incredible that now I’m dying to get my hands on the rest.

City of Bones . City of Ashes . City of Glass
City of Fallen Angels . City of Lost Souls . City of Heavenly Fire

Colleen Hoover (9)

Every single Colleen Hoover book I have read has been absolute perfection. I laugh with them, I cry with them, I FEEL with them. And I do love books that make me feel. I am so excited for her newest release in November, and that my amount of books by her that I have read will be up in double figures!

Never Never Part 1 . Never Never Part 2
Ugly Love
Hopeless . Loosing Hope . Finding Cinderella
Slammed . Point of Retreat . This Girl

Katie McGarry (5)

Like with a lot of authors on this list, I don’t even need to know the title of one of her new books to know that I want to read it. Every single one of her books is flawless and I will be reading her books for as long as she is writing them!

Pushing the Limits . Dare You To . Crash Into You . Take Me On
Nowhere But Here

Krista & Becca Ritchie (8)

These girls have to be my favourite twins (and that’s not just because they are the only twins I know!). Their writing is totally addictive and I can never get enough of their characters and stories. I don’t know how I am going to cope once the Addicted series has finished.

Addicted To You . Ricochet . Addicted For Now . Kiss the Sky . Hothouse Flower
Thrive . Addicted After All . Fuel the Fire

Anthony Horowitz (14)

He was my go-to guy when I was a teenager, and even now I still love reading his books. I am a teenage boy at heart, that loves reading about young spies and teenagers with special powers.

Stormbreaker . Point Blank . Skeleton Key . Eagle Strike . Scorpia . Ark Angel
Snakehead . Crocodile Tears . Scorpia Rising
Ravens Gate . Evil Star . Nightrise . Necropolis . Oblivion

Meg Cabot (16)

Another go-to author from my younger years, Meg Cabot really got me through those awkward teenage years with some absolutely amazing books, that I have read again and again and again.

Size 12 Is Not Fat . Size 14 Is Not Fat Either
Queen of Babble . Queen of Babble in the Big City . Queen of Babble Gets Hitched
Every Boy’s Got One
Avalon High . The Merlin Prophecy . Homecoming
All American Girl . Ready of Not
When Lightening Strikes . Code Name Cassandra . Safe House . Sanctuary . Missing You

Jamie McGuire (5)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Jamie McGuire. I find myself picking up her books whatever mood am I in, and I am always excitedly waiting on her next release!

Beautiful Disaster . Walking Disaster
Beautiful Oblivion . Beautiful Redemption . Beautiful Sacrifice

Have you read any of these books?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I Want to Meet

May 12, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 15

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

I can’t believe it’s Tuesday already, my weeks seem to be disappearing! Just to let you know that there is now less then a week left to enter my Giveaway for a gorgeous bookish mug!

This week is all about the authors that we would love to meet. I have been so lucky in the past two years to meet some of my favourite authors including Malorie Blackman, Gayle Foreman and Non Pratt, but there are just so many more that I want to meet….

TT Author to Meet

1) Tillie Cole – Every time Tillie comes to the UK I seem to miss out on seeing her, and I am super sad about this! Hopefully one of these days I will FINALLY get to meet her, and go all fangirly and make a complete fool out of myself!
Sweet Home . Sweet Rome . Sweet Fall . Sweet HopeIt Ain’t Me Babe . Heart Recaptured . Raze

2) George R.R Martin – His world building is fantastic, as are his balls at being able to so easily kill off his main characters so easily. I need to meet this man and learn how to become him (except less beard-y!)

3) J.R.R Tolkien (deceased) – Just like with George, his world building skills are phenomenal and be able to meet him and hear him talk about the creation of Middle Earth, well that would be a dream come true! One to add to my celebrity dinner party list I guess.

4) J.K.Rowling – I don’t feel like I need to explain this one. I would LOVE to meet her, but at the same time I know that I will become a complete mess and probably cry, there will be a lot of mumbling and possibly some fainting. Maybe I should leave that one for a little while until I’m a grown up and can actually manage to talk to her without turning into a totally marshmallow!

5) Colleen Hoover – She has this ability to make me cry, a lot. So we need to have words…I need so many more books from her, because I have SO MANY more tears to shed! Plus, I am kind of hoping that she would bring her pig with her and I would get to play with it!
Hopeless . Loosing Hope . Ugly Love . Never Never

6) Cassandra Clare – She wrote one of my most favourite series ever and so it would be amazing to get to meet her. And in exciting news, she is going to be at YALC this year, so I WILL GET TO MEET HER! So so so excited! I need to practice not being a fan girl idiot though like I did with Malorie last year! (I’m pretty sure there were tears involved!)

7) Krista and Becca Ritchie – For creating a series that I thought I was going to hate that turned into one of my most favourite I would like to meet these sisters just so I can bow down at their feet and thank them for the amazing Addicted series. I would also love to learn more about their writing processes, I mean how do you write a book as twin authors? Do they use twin telepathy? Who knows! Very important questions to be asked!
Addicted to You . RicochetAddicted for Now . Kiss the Sky . Hothouse Flower . ThriveAddicted After All . Fuel the Fire.

8) Christopher Paolini – Another one that I have picked for his world building. Christopher was only 15 when he first wrote Eragon, and I would love to know everything there is to know about Alagaësia and how he came about creating it.

9) Keary Taylor – She wrote the first book I ever reviewed on Broc’s Bookcase and I have wanted to meet her ever since. Her ability to write a range of different genres, and well, makes her one of my most exciting authors to read from, and I would love to meet her and talk books with her!
What I Didn’t Say

10) Marie Rutkoski – I discovered the Winners Trilogy this year, and WOW is it amazing. It compeltely took my breath away. The detail that went into creating the world, it’s people, it’s customes and history: every little detail is taken care of and it a series that you feel truly honoured to read. I would love to get in this ladies head for the day, and I figure that maind control requires you to be close to the maind you are wanting control of, hence why I would need to meet her!
The Winners Curse . The Winners Crime

What do you think of my choices? Do you want to meet any of these authors?

Who is on your list this week?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten All Time Favourite Authors

April 21, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 10

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

Another VERY hard topic this week, but I was determined to keep to the goal of only ten even though there are SOOOOOOOOO many more!

So, here we go…

Harry Potter Series
I get the feeling that J.K.Rowling is going to make a lot of lists this week. And for the woman who gave us  Hogwarts and the entire wizarding world, she deserves it all! I will still be reading her books when I am old and grey and I can tell you for a fact that all of my children, grandchildren, great grandchildren etc are all going to be massive J.K.Rowling fans too. I will make sure of it!

Christopher Paolini

The Inheritance Cycle
The fact that he wrote the Inheritance Cycle when he was just fifteen earns Christopher a place on my list. His world building is incredible and I am so excited for the next world he creates for us.

Tillie Cole

Sweet Series, Hades Hangmen Series, Raze
It is so crazy to think that it was just by chance I found one of Tillie’s books nearly two years ago and thought I’d give it ago, now 18 months later I am totally obsessed with Tillie and my excitement every time she announces a new book is off the scale! I will be reading Tillie for many many years to come.

Katie McGarry

Pushing the Limits Series
I love Katie’s writing and have been addicted to her books for years, way before I started blogging. Her newest book Nowhere But Here is released next month and I am so excited for it!

Becca & Krista Ritchie

The Addicted Series, The Calloway Sisters Series
I remember picking up the first book in the Addicted series and being very unsure of how it was going to go. But this writing duo won me over immediately. Their character development is pure perfection, and I don’t think I have ever fallen for a group of characters in the way I have done for theirs. More loveable characters in the future please!

Colleen Hoover

Hopeless Series, Slammed Series, Never Never Series, Ugly Love, Confess
I remember the moment I finished my first Colleen Hoover book and exactly what I was thinking: Why did I not read this sooner?! Since then I have devoured every Colleen Hoover book I can get my hands on, and I am loving them. Her writing is beautiful and heartbreaking and just so perfect for me, I would love to spend some time in her head and see where all her ideas come from. Also, can’t wait for Ugly Love to be turned into a film!

Keary Taylor

What I Didn’t Say, The Eden Trilogy, Fall of Angels Series
Keary’s ability to write a variety of different genres and write them well is a talent that got her on my list. From Contemporary to Dystopian/Fantasy to Supernatural she excels with everything she writes. What I Didn’t Say just so happened to be the first book I ever reviewed for Broc’s Bookcase, and I fell for Keary head of heels from the moment I finished that first book. I can’t wait to see what else she writes in the future.

Gayle Forman

If I Stay/Where She Went, Just One Day/Just One Year, I Was Here
Another one that I predict will make a lot of lists this week. I was lucky enough to meet Gayle a few weeks ago at a signing and if possible I fell even more in love (we talked about our Hogwarts houses!). Her books are incredible, and every single one that I have read so far has made me cry. I will read anything by Gayle, I don’t even need to read the description, just give me the book and off I’ll go!

Malorie Blackman

Noughts and Crosses Series, Boys Don’t Cry
Malorie was the author that introduced me to YA all those many years ago. I am forever thankful for Noughts and Crosses which totally changed my reading life. Also, she totally organised the first ever Young Adult UK Literature Convention (YALC) which was amazing, and I got to meet her at it and ended up a mumbling mess!

Anthony Horowitz

Alex Rider Series, The Gatekeepers Series
When I was younger I got bored with teenage girl books very quickly, it was all high school first loves and for me it just wasn’t enough. So instead I turned to the teenage boy section of the book store and was immediately jealous! Anthony got me out of my ‘silly little girl books’ as I like to refer to them and gave me stories that got me through my teenage years and books that I still read now as a twenty four year of woman.

What do you think of my choices this week? Have you read anything by any of these authors?

Top Ten Tuesday: My Top Ten Auto-Buy Authors

January 20, 2015 Top Ten Tuesday 6

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

This week on Top Ten Tuesday is a ‘freebie’ week, meaning we get to chose our own topic!

There are some authors that when you hear they are releasing a new book, you immediately add it to your TBR and pre-purchase on amazon! There is no need to read the description or see the cover, all you need to know is the author!

TTT Tillie Cole

Since the first book of Tillie’s that I read, I have NEVER had to check a description in order to see if I’m going to like her next book. I have read every single one of her books and I have LOVED every single one and I know for a fact that I am going to love every single one of her future books!

Sweet Home . Sweet Rome . Sweet Fall . It Ain’t Me Babe . Heart Recaptured . Raze

TTT Colleen Hoover

I was quite late getting on the Colleen Hoover train, but I am most definitely on it now and I am never getting off. Her books are beautiful, emotional and just so damn good! I don’t think I’m ever going to read a Colleen Hoover book and not like it.

Hopeless . Loosing Hope . Ugly Love . Never Never

TTT Keary TaylorKeary Taylor was the first person I ever reviewed on my blog, and I am always so thankful that I found her book during a flick through goodreads and decided to give it a go, because it was INCREDIBLE! I picked up her series not long after without even seeing what it was about and absolutely LOVED that too. She’s a keeper!

What I Didn’t Say

TTT Joss StirlingJoss have proved to me with each of her books that I read that she is an incredible writer, and so now I trust her so much that I never have to check book descriptions to see if I’m going to like them, because I know I will, because Joss is awesome!

Misty Falls

TTT Stephanie PerkinsAnother train I was late to get on but will never be leaving! Her writing is fun and totally addictive. I don’t think I will ever read a Stephanie Perkins book and describe it as “yeah, it’s ok”, there is no ok about Stephanie’s writing, only complete and utter amazement!

TTT S.E.Hall

I very nearly didn’t read the first S.E.Hall book I was sent, and WOW what a disaster that would have been! She has this incredible talent to write such amazing groups of characters that I could never ever get bored off! I can’t wait to see what she does next, and whatever it is, I’m reading it!!

Emerge . Embrace . Entice

TTT Jamie McGuireJamie McGuire gets quite a bit of controversy surrounding her books, and especially her bad boys. I’m on the Pro-Bad Boys team, especially when Jamie writes them and I don’t know what I would have done without any of her books or her swoon worthy bad boys! She has a new book coming out this month which I haven’t actually read the description for but I have already pre-ordered. Because she is THAT awesome!

Beautiful Oblivion

TTT Ritchie

A writing duo that I am so pleased I gave a chance because life without a Ritchie sister book would be a dull place indeed. They create such incredible characters, with such brilliant stories, to make such amazing books, that become such an addictive series! I hope these girls NEVER stop writing!

Addicted to You . RicochetAddicted for Now . Kiss the Sky . Addicted After All

TTT Katie McGarryI LOVE a good Katie McGarry story, all full of heartache and emotion and cuteness and the kind of stuff that sets of the butterflies in your tummy! I have never come across one of her books that I have not devoured like a crazy person! I am McGarry junkie, forever desperate for my next hit!

Pushing The Limits . Dare You To . Crash Into You . Take Me On

TTT Nicholas SparksIf I’m after a Romance then there is no where else, in my opinion, to go. Nicholas Sparks is my guy, he always has been and he always will be! I have loved every single one of his books that he has written, and I am always so excited to see what’s coming next.

What do you think of my choices? Who would you have picked?

What did you choose for this freebie week?

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Authors I’ve Only Read One Book From But MUST Read More

September 16, 2014 Top Ten Tuesday 2

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

So as I mostly read series there aren’t that many authors that I have only read one book of, but I managed to find 8 who I really really love and can’t believe I haven’t read more of their books already!

John Green

I absolutely LOVED The Fault In Our Stars and immediately went out and bought more John Green books, but as of yet I still haven’t read them!

Rainbow Rowell

I read Eleanor & Park before I went to YALC so if I got the chance to meet Rainbow whilst there I would actually be able to talk to her about one of her books. I started it a few days before I left, giving myself enough time to read it. However I got addicted and after some late night reading I finished it and very nearly bought another of her books right there and then to read. However it was 3am and I was in work the next day, so sadly I had to go to sleep instead!

Huntley Fitzpatrick

I LOVED My Life Next Door. I think it took me all of about 3 hours to read because I literally gobbled it up, refusing to put it down until I was finished! I can’t wait to get myself stuck into another of her books!

Cindy Miles

I received Stupid Girl by Cindy as a part of a blog tour and didn’t really know what to expect from her. But wow, within one chapter I was completely hooked and couldn’t put the book down. It was such a great mix of fun but serious with an awesome romance mixed in there. Can’t wait to check out more of her books!

Aven Ellis

Soooooo much love for Aven Ellis, I don’t know how I haven’t already read more of her books! Waiting for Prince Harry was just so much fun to read, I can’t believe I haven’t read any more of her books yet!

Dr Seuss

I loved Oh the Places You’ll Go, and my bedroom wall is full of Dr Seuss quotes, but I’m sad to say I haven’t read any more of his books yet. He is a completely genius and his writing style is just so perfect that I will definitely be needing to read more of him very soon!

David Levithan

Every Day left me with one of the biggest bookish hangovers I have had for quite a while. The whole book was just beautiful and heart breaking and inspiring and I would love to read another of David’s books and get all those feels again.

Non Pratt2

Trouble, oh me oh my, Trouble was amazing. Non Pratt is just pure genius. I had the chance to see her whilst at YALC and fell in love with her completely and straight away went over and bought her book. Her writing is just wow, I love it. And although she doesn’t yet have a second book out right now, I know that as soon as there is any word of one, I will be on it!

Have you read anything by any of these authors?

Do you love them as much as I do?

What’s on your list this week?
