The Story
 .(summary from Goodreads)

The world is breaking. And so are they.

Kate Harker isn’t afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she’s good at it.

August Flynn once yearned to be human. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

The war has begun.

The monsters are winning.

Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims’ inner demons.

Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

.

My Thoughts

I’ve never been one for duologies. Two books in a series just sounds weird to me plus there is never enough in two books. I always need more. Three is a much better number…a trilogy. I was surprised when I heard that Monster’s of Verity was only going to be two books. For me, a fantasy world this amazing deserved a trilogy and I was really worried that I was going to get to the end feeling very unsatisfied.

Well, I can happily say that I was wrong!

I know it hurts,” she said. “So make it worth the pain.

.

The Story(Summary from Goodreads)

In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?

Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.

As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.

When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

.

My Thoughts

So, me being the idiot that I am totally forgot that this series was a 4 book series, so picked up this book thinking that it was the last book in a trilogy and stayed up until 3am to finish it. Then at 3am finished the book and realised it was in fact a 4 book series and spent the next few hours wide awake because I needed to know what happened next!

I came a little late to this series which meant that I was able to read Red Queen and Glass Sword together, therefore no agonising wait between books for me. Until I finished Glass Sword which had possible the most amazing ending which has kept me desperate for the past year. This book was no different and yet again I have been left a desperate puddle in need of the forth and final book in this amazing series!

“Love makes you weak. And she’s right. I learned that before I even knew you.”

The Story(summary from Goodreads)

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

My Thoughts

Fifteen seconds. That’s all it takes to completely change everything about a person. Fifteen seconds that we’ll never get back.

I don’t think I have cried so much at a book, or had such a massive bookish hangover since I read Noughts and Crosses when I was 12 years old. This book was so different to what I expected it to be but so much more than I had hoped it would be and it has taken me 2 whole days to recover before I could even begin to attempt to write a review for this book.

The Story(summary from Goodreads)

She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic. But there’s nothing mystical or magical about Dustwalk, the dead-end town that Amani can’t wait to escape from.

Destined to wind up “wed or dead,” Amani’s counting on her sharpshooting skills to get her out of Dustwalk. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and devastatingly handsome foreigner, in a shooting contest, she figures he’s the perfect escape route.

But in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she never imagined she’d gallop away on a mythical horse, fleeing the murderous Sultan’s army, with a fugitive who’s wanted for treason. And she’d never have predicted she’d fall in love with him… or that he’d help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is.

My Thoughts

This book was incredible, and I am so so glad that Hamilton is attending YALC 2016 or I probably never would have found it and what a tragedy that would have been!!! This book kept me up until 3am because I just could not put it down. I love finding new authors and I especially love finding new fantasy trilogies and this one is already one of my favourites of the year!

As you are probably well aware of by now I am a MASSIVE fan of fantasy worlds and Hamilton does an incredible job of building hers. The history, the creatures, the myths, the magic, the places; it is all so beautifully woven into this incredible and totally believable world. The last book I read that was set in the middle of the desert was quite frankly terrible, but Hamilton brought life to this lifeless setting and fed all my craving for more of this wonderful world right up until the last page.

“She moved like a storm someone had given steel to.”

The Story

.
Only through blood can the deepest redemption be found…

He was born to ascend.
He was destined to lead.
He was never meant to fail.

Prophet Cain lies broken and defeated on the floor of his cell. A cell he has been thrown into by the one person who was supposed to stand by his side until the end. His flesh and blood, his only companion. His beloved twin brother.

Cain has sacrificed everything for his people. He left the safety and security of his life of study to infiltrate the infamous Hades Hangmen. He lived with them, rode with them, and then betrayed them. All in the name of a faith he can now feel slipping away from him. Like everything else he once held dear…

But then his isolation is broken. Another prisoner is brought to the cell next to his. A woman fighting her own demons and fears. A woman who Cain understands needs him, as he needs her.

As the connection between them grows, so does Cain’s resolve. He will right the wrongs he has done. He will atone for the evil acts carried out in his name. He will save the one he loves…

… Even if the battle takes him to the gates of hell itself.

.

My Thoughts
I was scared about reading this book, very very scared. Worried that for the first time that I might not actually like a Tillie Cole book. A book about the most hated character in the entire series, about a character who betrayed us, who hurt the characters we loved, who allowed terrible things to happen. How could I ever feel anything but hatred for a character like that. As I said, I was so very worried…

…but I had no need to be.

Review: “The Winners Kiss” – Marie Rutkoski

Series: The Winner's Trilogy #3
Genre: YA Fantasy
Format: eARC

The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1)
The Winner’s Crime (The Winner’s Trilogy #2)
The Winner’s Kiss (The Winner’s Trilogy #3)

The Story(summary from Goodreads)

Some kisses come at a price.

War has begun. Arin is in the thick of it with untrustworthy new allies and the empire as his enemy. Though he has convinced himself that he no longer loves Kestrel, Arin hasn’t forgotten her, or how she became exactly the kind of person he has always despised. She cared more for the empire than she did for the lives of innocent people—and certainly more than she did for him.

At least, that’s what he thinks.

In the frozen north, Kestrel is a prisoner in a brutal work camp. As she searches desperately for a way to escape, she wishes Arin could know what she sacrificed for him. She wishes she could make the empire pay for what they’ve done to her.

But no one gets what they want just by wishing.

As the war intensifies, both Kestrel and Arin discover that the world is changing. The East is pitted against the West, and they are caught in between. With so much to lose, can anybody really win?

.

My Thoughts

I feel like I have been waiting for this book to be released FOREVER and it was definitely one of my most anticipated reads of 2016.

After the way Rutkoski ended The Winner’s Curse we were left absolutely desperate for the final book in this trilogy. I have always loved the way that she has weaved this story with all it’s different elements together and she really showed her talent in this final book which was full of the tension and the ‘almost’ moments which make this trilogy incredible.

“You don’t need to be gifted with a blade. You are your own best weapon.”
