The weekend is almost over, which means back to work tomorrow for most of us. So to cheer you up (and myself) I am going to be giving you a little bit of bookish fun every Sunday, to make the end of the weekend that little bit easier!
My week has been manic and it’s only 1 weeks off all the students starting back at the university I am working at. It’s a time at work that I don;t particularly like, not because I can’t cope with being busy but I feel like you really get to see the real side of the people that you work with, and sometimes it’s not a nice side. I’m really hoping that by this time next year I’ll be working somewhere else! *fingers crossed*
Also, just to let you know that my Birthday Giveaway is open until midnight tonight (GMT time) so make sure you check it out and enter for the chance to win some bookish goodies!
This weeks Sunday Funday is all about recycling old books into bookmarks, which sounds like it’s been done 1000 times before, but trust me… you’ve got to check these out!
I’ve seen bookmarks made of book pages tons of times, but I’ve never seen them made out of book spines until now. Linda at Crafts A la Mode featured them on her blog after seeing them made by Maureen (to raise money for injured Marines). It got me to thinking about how easy these would be to make yourself!
All you would need to do is cut off the spine, I would advise some kind of craft knife rather than scissors (you can get these super cheap!) as I think it would cut better without damaging the spine.
Then curl your edges under and stick the spine to a piece of cardboard. Use a hole-punch to cut a hole in the top, pop a ribbon through and there you have it! A book spine bookmark.
I feel like these have TONS of potential and I can’t wait to go and check out my local charity shops for some vintage books with some great spines!
