So, it’s the last Sunday Funday of the year and it’s time to look back over 2014.

The End of Year Book Survey is an annual feature by Jamie at The Perpetual Page Turner and gives all of us book nerds & bloggers the chance to show everyone our favourite bookish things from the past year and what we are looking forward to next year.

So check out mine and then have a go yourself, and don’t forget to post your link on Jamie’s post here.

2014 end of year book survey

2014 has been one of those years that I will look back on a realise how much I have learnt. There have been highs, but there have also been a few lows and I feel that this year has really made me appreciate everyone and everything in my life. I have seen and done some amazing things this year, including going to China and meeting my literary hero, Malorie Blackman. But I also feel that I have found out how much strength I have to get myself back up and carry on after things have knocked me down!

Number Of Books You Read: 84

Number of Re-Reads: 8

Genre You Read The Most From: Most definitely Young Adult. A mix between Contemporary and Dystopian

1. Best Book You Read In 2014?
If I Stay (YA Contemporary)
Sweet Fall (NA Contemporary)
The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire (YA Fantasy)

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
The Distance Between Us – Katie West. I don’t know if I need to re-read it when in a different frame of mine, and I did like it, I just didn’t love it.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014?
I was slightly unsure about the Addicted Series, starting with Addicted to You when I initially saw it. As a story that features a sex addict, I was a little unsure of what exactly I was going to be reading. As you all know, I am not a fan of erotica. But this book surprised me, so much so that I have read the following six books!

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014?
This is probably going to be a Tillie Cole book! I absolutely LOVE them and I am ALWAYS trying to get other people to read them. I’d guess between Sweet Fall and It Ain’t Me Babe.

5. Best series you started in 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?
Best Series: The Maze Runner
Best Sequel: Where She Went (it wasn’t released in 2014, but it was when I read it and it was just as amazing as the first book, If I Stay)
Best Series Ender: The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire

6. Favourite new author you discovered in 2014?
There can’t be just one for this. I’m not even going to try!
Colleen Hoover – why did I wait until this year to discover Colleen. She is AMAZING!
Non Pratt – Best discovery of YALC! She was so entertaining, I immediately went to buy her book!
Gayle Foreman – I’ve been wanting to read her for ages and finally got round to her this year, and again thought, WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG?!

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
Say Her Name (James Dawson). I am NOT a horror reader, it completely freaks me out, so this was one book that was not easy to read but I was VERY proud of myself for reading it!

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
I read the Eden series by Keary Taylor in February and it is one of the fastest I have ever read! It had everything: action, romance and an unbelievably addictive storyline.

9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
Raze by Tillie Cole most definitely. I just read this one last week and it was INCREDIBLE!
Also I will totally be re-reading Anna & the French Kiss, Lola & the Boy Next Door and Isla & the Happily Ever After again!

10. Favourite cover of a book you read in 2014?
Trouble by Non Pratt. A book with sperm on the front, I’m sorry but no book cover beats this one!

trouble cover

11. Most memorable character of 2014?
Lexi from Sweet Fall. I think this one stands out for me the most because she was based upon Tillie Cole’s (the authors)

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2014?
Hopeless & Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover were some of the most intense and beautifully written books I read this year. I was so in awe

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2014?
If I Stay (Gayle Foreman) – It really made me realise what is important in my life. We spend our days worrying about the most insignificant things but it isn’t until something like this happens that we realise what we have.
Sweet Fall (Tillie Cole) – I have read a few books about eating disorders, all of which were very good but non of which I connected with as much as this one. Finding out that Lexi’s experiences in this book where based upon Tillie’s real life experiences with anorexia just made this story so much more poignant.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2014 to finally read?
If I Stay & Where She Went – Gayle Foreman
All Colleen Hoover books!

15. Favourite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014?
“Did Brother Zachariah just steal our cat?” (The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire)

“We were both just too messed up to ever be with each other in the way we needed to be. Two shooting stars that burned out too quickly, never quite reaching each other’s skies.” (Sweet Fall)

“It’s funny. I used to look up at the stars and feel so small and unimportant. But I’ve come to realize that the only thing that can ever make you feel alive and important is the one person who takes you for you.” (Sweet Fall)

Also, basically every page of Love, Rosie! There are just TOO MANY!!!!

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2013?
Challenging Zed (Joss Stirling) – 32 Pages
The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire (Cassandra Clare) 725 Pages

17. Book That Shocked You The Most
Beautiful Oblivion (Jamie McGuire) – That ending, wow I was NOT expecting that!!!

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
Lola & Cricket (Lola and the Boy Next Door) – Just pure cuteness! Jace & Clary (The Mortal Instruments) – After everything they went through, they are one of my top couples!

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
Rosie & Alex (Love, Rosie) – I LOVED these guys friendship (before the whole romantic thing got in the way!)
Lo, Ryke & Connor (Addicted Series) – This bromance is by fear one of my FAVOURITE things about this series! They tease each other and joke around but when things get serious they are one team you do not want to go against.

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2014 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
Tillie Cole!!!!! Hahaha. I loved every single one of her books this year: Sweet Rome, Sweet Fall, It Ain’t Me Babe, Heart Recaptured and Raze. All just pure perfection.

21. Best Book You Read In 2014 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:
If I Stay (Gayle Foreman) – I have been meaning to read it for a while, but it wasn’t until this year and the pressure to read it before the film, combined with every single comment left on my blog telling me to read it that made me FINALLY read it!

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2014?
Sawyer (Entice) – I’ve met him before in previous books in the series, but it wasn’t until this book that he grew up and become a guy that I could totally LOVE.
Will (Slammed Series) I fell in love with Will the moment I met him. A guy who sacrifices so much for his family is just amazing. He is beautiful both inside and out.

23. Best 2014 debut you read?
Trouble by Non Pratt – Pure genius!

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?
Across the Universe – Set in a spaceship, awesome!
The Maze Runner – This whole world was just incredible. At first it reminded me of the Hunger Games a little bit, but then it just became so much more!

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
I really enjoyed Stephanie Perkins series Anna & the French Kiss, Lola & the Boy Next Door and Isla and the Happily Ever After.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2014?
Sweet Fall (Tillie Cole)
If I Stay (Gayle Foreman)

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
The Eden Trilogy. This one needs so much more love from the bookish community because it is INCREDIBLE!

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?
Raze (Tillie Cole) – I can’t really say why at this point, because it hasn’t actually been released yet. But it was truly amazing, heart breaking and soul crushing. Incredible.

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2014?
Love, Rosie (Cecelia Ahern) A story made up of letters, emails, texts and instant messaging. It was like nothing I have ever read before.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?
Breaking Fences (Juliana Haygert) – This book made me so mad because the people in it were just so ignorant. The new girl at college is from Brazil so that must mean that she is a total slut. The

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2014?
Chrissi Reads. I can always find something I am interested in on her blog. She has incredible taste in books and I always find my TBR growing substantially after visiting her blog!

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2014?
I love writing my Tillie Cole reviews because they are always the most challenging. I love every single one of her books and I always find myself having to really work hard to keep from just saying OMG THIS WAS AMAZING over and over again. I really like spreading the word about these amazing books so these are by far my favourite.

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?
I think my favourite non review posts have got to be my Top Ten Tuesday ones. I really love taking part in this meme and it always gets me finding new books that I would have never found otherwise.

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?
There have been so many! Going to YALC this year was INCREDIBLE and I will definitely be going back again next year! AI have also really enjoyed all of the blog tours I have been involved in, I really like thinking up questions for author interviews, and of course the ARC’s are always good!

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2014?
Ok, so I have two, both of which happened at YALC.
Meeting Malorie Blackman – She has been a hero of mine for many many years and so getting to meet her this year was incredible! I totally fan girled and was shaking like an idiot!IMG_4105 Broc’s Bookcase being recognised – Whilst at YALC I got talking to a publisher and happened to mention that I had a blog. When I told her the name she totally recognised it and commented on how good my blog was. This for me was such a highlight.

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?
Review: City of Heavenly Fire was by far my most popular post this year. I actually managed to get over 1000 views in only a few hours which was so much more then I am used to. I even got a message from WordPress telling me that my blog was getting a few more views then usual. A few?! This major accomplishment was due to Cassandra Clare retweeting my link to my review and it just shows the power of authors!

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?
I’ve started doing more discussion posts on my blog, trying to get people a little more involved, and disappointingly for me they haven’t quite got the response that I had hoped for yet. But with a little bit more work next year I am hoping to get them up to where I want them.

9. Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
The Book Depository – Free shipping to anywhere in the world, best site ever!!!
The Perks of Being a Weasley – I LOVE this store on Etsy and order so much stuff from it! I don’t know how I would have coped without this Harry Potter fix this year!

10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?
I took part in the Goodreads challenge this year and I planned to read 100 books. It was totally on track until about September time when I went through a MASSIVE reading low and didn’t really read anything until like November. I did manage to make it to 84 though, so I was close!

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2014 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2015?
I STILL haven’t managed to read the Lunar Chronicles this year and so I really really need to get to

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2015 (non-debut)?
I’m really looking forward to the last two book in the Addicted Series: Fuel the Fire and Long Way Down. Becca & Krista Ritchie have done such amazing things with this series.

3. 2015 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?
Playlist for the Dead (Michelle Falkoff) – This one just looks so unique, I am really excited to see how this story unfolds.
The Red Queen (Victoria Aveyard) – I am SO EXCITED for this series to get under way. It looks INCREDIBLE!

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2015?
Again it would have to be the final two books in the Addicted Series: Fuel the Fire and Long Way Down. I am both excited and sad to read these final two books! Also, the final book in N.L.Greene’s magical MysticSeeker series: Secrets Revealed. I am so excited to find out how this one ends!

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2015?
There will be another reading challenge next year and I will most definitely be completing it. I also have some goals for where I want to be with my blog this time next year and I also would love to go to YALC again next year!

6. A 2015 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone:
It’s not a 2015 release, but it is released on December 30th so it practically is a new year release:
Raze by Tillie Cole
It is incredible! I would urge everyone to pick up this book!
