The Story

(summary from Goodreads)

Raleigh West works in an auto shop day and night, trying to put his broken past out of mind. It’s been seven years since the fiery crash that landed his teenage sweetheart in the hospital . . . and him in jail. In an instant, he lost everything: his passion for racing, his hope of escaping his father’s shameful legacy, and the only girl he ever loved. Raleigh hasn’t seen her since that awful night. Never got a chance to apologise. And never forgave himself, either.

When brave, beautiful Mia Wentworth returns to the Florida coast for the first time in what seems like forever, it’s not to see Raleigh. Even so, the moment she arrives she can feel his presence like a gust of wind that gives her goose bumps. Opening her heart to him again seems impossible. But staying away? That might be harder still. Lucky for them both, Mia’s never been the kind of woman to take the easy way out.

My Thoughts

I love second chance romances and I love stories about cars and racing, so the moment I saw this book reviewed on another blog I knew I had to have it! It’s been quite a while since I spontaneously bought a book and immediately read it, and although I couldn’t class this book as 5*, it was still definitely worth the read.

Raleigh was the perfect man for this story, and actually a perfect book boyfriend (and that’s not something I say very often!). He was part bad boy but also a family man, devoted friend and all round nice guy. His guilt over the car accident that scarred Mia is ever present and very much defines the way he lives his life all these years later. But he also allows himself to dream, and it is heart breaking for us to watch him struggle to make these dreams come true after all the hard times he has already been through in his life.
