Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.
The thing I love most about this book is when someone new hears about it and they say “oh well you know exactly how this is going to end.” They say it in that way as if books with obvious endings like this are boring, like what is the point of the book when you know how it is going to end.
And then you speak to that person again once they have finished reading the book and you can see it in their eyes, you can hear in their voice and you know that they can feel it in their heart. They have been infected with the magic that is John Green, and as it is with the rest of us who have survived this book, they now know the impact a story can have on our lives.
