The Story(summary from Goodreads)

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction.

Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her:

1) Never ask about the past.
2) Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.

Initial Reaction

My Thoughts
I added this book to my TBR 4 months ago, it was bought for me for my birthday 2 months ago, and yet I only got round to reading it 2 days ago! I have fallen for every single Colleen Hoover book I have ever read, it’s like she can read my mind and knows exactly what I need in a book before even I do. Then she sets about writing it just for me (an the rest of the world) and when I finally get round to reading it I fall in love with her even harder!

I love a book that will make me cry so much that I soak the pages, or make me so angry that I nearly rip it apart. Books that make me feel something are MASSIVE thumbs up for me and this one has a whole lot of feels in it. Even the tin man with no heart will feel a ‘ba dumph’ in that empty chest of his after reading this!

“Love isn’t always pretty. Sometimes you spend all your time hoping it’ll eventually be something different. Something better. Then, before you know it, you’re back to square one, and you lost your heart somewhere along the way.”

Normally when you get a story that features a romance with separate male and female POV you usually end up getting the same story but from two different views. With this one, Tate takes the present day and Miles takes the past. What makes it great is that as we learn more about Miles in the present day setting, we are also learning his past story and the things that he went through to make him into the present day man.

“God gives us the ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things in life for granted.”

There is something to be said for sex scenes in books that do not feature every single detail of who put their hands where but still end up with you grabbing whatever paper like thing you have nearby to fan yourself off because it’s getting kind of steamy! Colleen Hoover writes awesome sexy-times that give you just enough detail to steam up your glasses, without it turning awkward.

“When life gives you lemons, make sure you know whose eyes you need to squeeze them in.”

I love the part of this book in which Tate realised that her best friend is an 80 year old man who sits next to the elevator all day and presses the button (and occasionally pee’s on himself and/or snores). I think everyone needs a ‘Cap’ in there life, someone who is always there to cheer you up with a totally random story or piece of advice. My favourite has to be his belief that the placement of a birthmark shows how you died in a past life. Guess I got shot in the foot then?

“Ugly love becomes you. Consumes you. Makes you hate it all. Makes you realize that all the beautiful parts aren’t even worth it. Without the beautiful, you’ll never risk feeling the ugly. So you give it all up. You give it all up. You never want love again, no matter what kind it is, because no type of love will ever be worth living through the ugly love again.”

Final Thoughts

If Colleen Hoover can keep providing me with books like this one for the rest of my life then I will bea very happy old lady book nerd in my rocking chair surrounded by books!

Re-Readability: Yes Please! I’m always up for an emotional read.

I would recommend this book to: Colleen Hoover fans, “friends with benefits to relationship” story lovers, fans of stories featuring: guys with emotional issues, protective older brothers, pilots and sexy sexy times!
