The Story(summary from Goodreads)

Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her, Evan having protected and coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.

Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.

A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love…and life.

My Thoughts

Once again I made the mistake of starting a new book at midnight when I got into bed, 4 hours later I am still awake and finishing the book! Ooops! I found this book a very easy and addictive read. Trying to write this review and explain the awesomeness of it without giving away too much is going to be difficult, but here it goes…

“I’m not sure what kind of love you mean, baby, but if you mean do I want you to be with me forever, that I can’t bear the thought of being without you as my lover, my best friend, my whole world….one day my wife, and my baby mama, then yes, I Love you, Love you!”

So, Laney. Wow, I don’t want to ever be in her position. She has these two amazing guys who are both different and both give different things, but are both exactly what she wants and needs. She is written so well, she’s not a ‘cheating slut’ but basically a girl in love, with two amazing guys.

So lets start with Evan. The boy next door (well three doors down, but whose counting!) Laney grew up with him and after years of being friends they finally decide to give a relationship a go. They are super cute together (can’t believe I just used the words super cute!) and Evan, well, I was in love with him immediately! He is the boys she has grown up with and he knows her perfectly, and has the ability to say the perfect things.

“Laney you’re THAT girl…the one guys make up in their head when they put the parts together to make one perfect girl”

Now Dane. The brother of one of her new friends at college the two instantly click. I found myself trying not to fall for him and stick to my Team Evan, but sadly I could not, after a few pages my heart was his. He’s slightly more mysterious then Evan, he has secrets about his past, but nothing that threatens his relationship with Laney. She doesn’t really seem to notice. Dane and Laney together produce a whole lot of chemistry and just like Evan, he says the perfect things. Most of his hot and steamy!

“Open your eyes, Laney, look at me. Make damn sure you know it’s me kissing you, and don’t you ever hide from it.”

This book is full of so many good characters. Laney’s roommate Bennet was her perfect double. Whilst during the beginning of college Laney was shy and happy to be unsocial but Bennet was confident and dragged her out. The boys: Tate, Sawyer and Zach are amazing, and remind me of the boys that I went to university with. They are a mix of fun and serious and are always there for Laney, treating her kind of lke a sister and standing by her through her love struggles. Zach especially, who lives across the hall, becomes a constant emotional companion for Laney, never judging and always there to listen and supply advice (I need a Zach in my life)

“It’s okay for you to be confused, Laney, that doesn’t make you a bad person. Just be honest, Laney. Don’t stray from that beautiful heart of yours okay?”

Anything bad about this book? So at times I felt like Laney was slightly babied by her friends, and at times she seemed quite naive. She didn’t seem to realise obvious things until someone told her.

The ending. Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you what happens. But wow, I wasn’t prepared. If you get near the end of this book and you don’t understand why I am saying this, then you have not reached the end. Literally like the last page it’s like BAM. And then literally as that happens you finish the book. And then if you are anything like me you are like “I NEED BOOK 2 NOW!!!!!”

Some people may argue that this is a love-triangle type book, but I disagree. Yes, there is a girl who is in love with two guys, but I wouldn’t consider it a cheat-fest type story. This was extremely well written and you are right in there with Laney stuck in her situation. I literally found myself getting stressed out trying to pick between these two boys, both of which I was MADLY in love with.

“Maybe it’s not about the length of time you’ve known someone; maybe it’s about instant recognition on an unconscious level. Our souls know each other.”

Final Thoughts

This book will completely stress you out throughout, trying to pick between these two boys. And give you an ending that kinda shreds your heart. But then at the same time leaves you extremely happy and begging for more!!

Re-Readability: Hells yes! I love this group of characters

I would recommend this book to fans of: big friendship groups, books set in college, slow burning romances

Rating Loved it
