Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.
So I’ve been a little MIA the past few weeks due to an amazing holiday in Australia and then the horrendous jetlag that followed. But I’m back in the right time zone, with a computer with actual internet access so thought it would be the perfect time to jump back into TTT
This weeks topic is Ten Books I Loved Less/More Than I Thought I Would. I actually thought that I was going to struggle to come up with ten of either so was going to do a mix of both, but then when I started to put together my list of books that I loved less I just couldn’t stop adding books to my list!
The Last Beginning – From the reviews I’ve read for this book most people seemed to like this sequel better than the first book in the series. Sadly I found it to be a massive let down and not nearly as awesome as The Next Together!
Seven Days of You – I feel a little bad adding this one to my list since it hasn’t been released yet but I was so disappointed with this book. To put it simply, nothing actually happened and the ending just about killed me with disappointment. Maybe get this one out of the library rather than buy it.
Pretty Fierce – Again, it hasn’t been released yet but sadly another disappointment. I was expecting some kind of teenage spy story, maybe something along the lines of Alex Rider but the YA version. Instead we get some cheesy attempt at a romance by some teenagers playing at James Bond, and the only actually deep part of the story line being brushed over in about 5 lines. Another one that I’d suggest finding in your library once it’s released.
Asking For It – I just found it such a hard book to connect with because I hated the main character so much, but then she was the victim so I was supposed to feel sympathy for her. I ended up feeling so conflicted and skipping most of this one. Was gutted as well because I met the author at a signing and she was awesome!
Before We Were Strangers – There was a lot of excitement surrounding this one when it was released, including my own, but for me it just felt kind of flat. It was meant to be a second chance romance, my absolutely favourite type of romance but it just felt a bit limp. Loved the cover though!
Wild Swans – Typical case of the description making a story sound like one thing and the book actually telling a totally different story. I most skimmed this one. Was massively disappointed.
Scarlett Says – I’m still getting into the whole Non-Fiction thing and took a big chance with a biography type book. But I LOVE Scarlett Moffat so had big hopes for this one. Turns out she is more excited to watch than read about and I fell asleep about half way through this book.
One – I’ve heard so many amazing things about Sarah Crossen and after this book appearing at YALC last year I deceided to finally read one of Crossan’s books. I know a lot of people loved this one, but I just couldn’t connect. I don’t see why people loved it so much? Maybe because of the unique storyline, but the story itself, I just couldn’t connect. Maybe I’ll try one of her other books at some point.
We’ve Come to Take You Home – Another case of great description but a story which doesn’t fit the excitement at all. I had to DNF it, just couldn’t stay with it, and I had such big hopes for it!
