Challenge: Around the World in 245 books

September 6, 2013 Around the World, Challenge 1

Hi all,

So, it’s time for me to finally introduce my first challenge. It’s a big one, a very very big one! But it’s something that I have wanted to do for so long that I thought now I have Broc’s Bookcase it would be the perfect time to start it. So, as you probably read from the post title my challenge is:
Around the World Challenge

Around the World in 245 books!
I love reading, and I love travelling. So I thought why not combine the two and go on my own Bookish Adventure? To be clear, I will not be travelling to all these places (as much as I would love to), but if I have an actual trip planned somewhere then I will aim to read the books for that place whilst I’m there!
So, why 245? There are a lot of challenges about which are a bit like this, but challenge you to read around the States of America, or the Countries of the world. Mine does both!

193 countries (193 books)
The 194th country is the United States of America, so this turns into the states (50 books)
Then not forgetting the North & South Poles (2 books)
And so we reach our Grand Total: 245 books
So, where am I going first on my bookish adventure?

I chose today to start this challenge as I am actually travelling to Northern Ireland tonight for a weekend break with some of my friends from uni. I’m so excited as I haven’t seen them since graduation in July, which is only just over a month ago but seems like forever when you have lived with them and seen them nearly everyday for 3 years!

So yes, the first book… (drumroll please)
On the first day of September, 16 year-old Meredith Harper rules over the teen it-crowd of Belfast, Northern Ireland. But beneath the surface, Meredith’s complicated web of manipulative lies and self-serving intrigue are slowly beginning to threaten her social position and she finds herself being challenged by handsome Mark Kingston, the only guy in the school who’s always hated her.
In a world where nothing stays secret for very long, Meredith and her friends will need all their skills to guess who’s in, out, coming out, going up, going down, dating, cheating, lying and trying to cope….
You don’t know how hard it is to find a Young Adult book set in Northern Ireland. Every time I searched online I kept getting loads of books coming up for Ireland, but hardly any for Northern Ireland. But then after a few hours of searching I was finally rewarded with Popular by Gareth Russell.
The summary of this book reminded me a little of Gossip Girl, which I used to watch and loved, so I am excited to get stuck into this one on my flight tonight!
