Bookopoly 2017

January 3, 2017 Bookopoly 16

I don’t know about you but I love taking part in bookish challenges. They have helped me to broaden my reading and try out so many new things and I wanted to find a way to do this for other people who are maybe a bit stuck in a rut with their own reading. So here it is … Bookopoly!

Why Should You Take Part?

This challenge is specifically designed to get you trying out new things when it comes to your reading life. Whether it’s a new genre, author, topic or a bookish activity that you wouldn’t normally do… give it a go!

For people who aren’t big readers it’s a great way to motivate you to read more and maybe try out something different. For those of you who are a bit more experienced then it’s a great way to show off your bookish awesomeness as you make you way round the board!

The board can look a little intimidating at first, but don’t let it worry you… it’s not a competition. It’s about YOU and YOUR OWN reading experience. And you can still enter the giveaway and have the chance to win a great prize at the end of the challenge, even if you haven’t completed the entire board.

How Does It Work?

  • The challenge will take place during the entire year, from 1st January – 31st December 2017.
  • Sign ups will be open all year.
  • There will be numerous giveaways throughout the year that you can enter dependent on what you have completed so far, plus one final EPIC giveaway in December 2017!
  • You don’t have to complete the board in order. If you want to, sure go for it, but it’s not a requirement. If you want to make it more of a challenge then you could even roll a dice to determine which challenge you will complete next!
  • If you read more than one book for a specific challenge then you can earn ‘Shelves’ (kind of like houses in Monopoly). If you collect 3 Shelves for any one challenge then you earn yourself a Bookcase! This will give you more chance to win something in the giveaways throughout the year!

  2. Download your Bookopoly board! (Link below) There is also a  Suggestions Sheet if you are having trouble finding books for any of the tasks and a Progress Sheet for keeping track of what you have read for each task. You could also keep track of what you have read in a Goodreads Shelf.
  3. READ! READ! READ!
  4. There are 4 boxes on the board marked with large question marks. These are Chance Challenges and the tasks are a mystery! One Chance will be unveiled in February, May, August and November and you will have just 5 days to complete the task!

This is the most adorable challenge I have ever seen!! I am adding it to my challenge list now and I’m signing up because I just can’t resist it. 🙂

Yeay! I’m glad you like it 🙂 I hope you enjoy it!!!

  2. Amy

I’m Amy 🙂 I’m from Perth, Western Australia. I love YA books, but I’m trying to force myself to read a bigger variety of books, and this challenge looked like fun so I’m going to have a go! Though I started a challenge of 50 books back in 2015 and am still going, so we’ll see how far I get haha. As a teacher I don’t get a whole lot of spare time to read, but I’m enjoying making the most of my school holidays at the moment by reading the Throne of Glass series for the first time. I’m looking forward to making a start on this challenge, thanks for creating it 🙂

Hi Amy, thanks for signing up! No pressure to finish the board, just work at it bit by bit. You might even be able to used some of the books from your 50 books challenge for it too! Killing two birds with one stone! Good luck!

Hey, should we be updating our progress somewhere, or just keeping a personal record? Or what’s the best way to share if we wish to? You said on your giveaway post that our progress can improve our chances of winning but I wasn’t sure how to share my progress 🙂

Hi Amy, there isn’t a specific progress page for the challenge at the moment. I’ve kind of left it up to people to keep track how they want to.
I’ve got a ‘Bookopoly’ shelf on my goodreads account that I have been adding my books to as well as tracking it on a page on my site. I’m guessing you are tracking yours on Goodreads too? Maybe you could put a comment at the end of the review section on your goodreads to say which category it covers for the Bookopoly challenge?
I am planning on doing a quarterly Bookopoly Progress post on my site in which I share my own progress (and have a giveaway!) and you are more than welcome to share your own in the comments of the post. You could also keep track using the progress sheet (which you can download from this post) and maybe take a picture of it and upload it to instagram/twitter etc to share your progress? Or you could keep track on an online google doc (easy to use if you already have a gmail account) and post the link on your social media, one of my update posts or the giveaway post should you be wanting to enter?
I hope this is helpful, I’m sorry that there’s not a better way for non blogger participants to track their progress. I will definitely look into improving this for you and anyone else (non blogger) taking part.
          Hannah
