Surrender to Me (I Surrender #2)
Ava Thompson left her one true love, Jasper White, to unearth her destiny. It was the only way for Ava to grow into the woman she’s always wanted to become.
Sadly, that destiny has led her back to the place that broke her … Singapore.
And more importantly, it has led her back to the man who broke her … Harper.
Ava is no longer the scared, lost girl she once was. She is stronger and determined to accomplish her dreams in order to find happiness. Hopefully, at the end of it all, she will return into the loving arms of Jasper White.
Six months later, Ava travels back to Los Angeles for an event that embraces the true meaning of love. Sadly for Ava, her meaning of true love has been lost.
Los Angeles is not how Ava left it. Things have changed. People have changed. She has changed. However, what has remained untouched is her passionate love for Jasper White.
But does Jasper feel the same?
So this is one of those reviews when I try and get you interested in the book without being able to say all that much about the book because I’m so scared of accidentally giving something away and ruining it for you all! This post is definitely going to be checked like 10 times!
“Once you reach a crossroad in your life, the path you choose send you on a spiral of the unknown. And I was happy to uncover that unknown…”
This book is addictive, and an extreme emotional roller coaster. Your going to feel angry, your going to swoon, your going to laugh, you are going to be pissed off and at times turned on (Monica James knows how to write a romance!) In fact there is not a point in this book when you will not be feeling anything. So be prepared people, immensely emotional book!
“Looking out the huge glass windows overlooking the greens, I notice a blackbird soar into the sky. I longingly wish I too could fly away, fly away from the mess I’ve gotten myself into.“
This is not a predictable book. You will find yourself reading and thinking I know what happens next, then BAM, something completely different happens. This book has twists, turns, loops: basically anything that will take what you expect and throw it out the window and give you something your were not exacting instead!
“You’ve ruined me for anyone else, so you’re stuck with me.“
Months have passed since I Surrender, and the characters have developed a lot in that time. Both Ava and Jasper are in completely different places since they were last together and it makes for a very good story. I’m not going to lie, there were times when I wanted to slap them both and lock them in a room until they sorted all their issues out, but then we would miss out on the whole story, and that would be bad!
“You run away from me again, and I promise you, I will find you. I will chase you down and I won’t stop until you’re mine.“
This is not a perfect happy love story, it’s real. There’s heartbreak, there’s problems and issues that need to be dealt with, emotions that are completely true to life. It will leave you guessing the entire time and everything you think is going to happen will just be thrown right out the window, because it is not what you are expecting.. it’s better.
I would recommend this book to fans of: NA romance, emotional read
I got the chance to ask Monica some questions about her new book, the series as a whole and some random ones just for a bit of fun. See what she said below:
1. Where did the idea for the I Surrender series come from?
The first book, I Surrender, came to me late one evening while I was tossing and turning in bed. I had a clear vision in my head of how I wanted the book to start, Ava sitting on a plane, coming home after being crushed beyond repair.
As I sat down, scene after scene just came to me and the story wrote itself. All three books flowed this way, and the original storyline varied so many times from the overview, I lost count. But this happens so often in my writing, so I expected no different with I Surrender. I knew halfway through book one, that one book wasn’t going to cut it, and I started writing book two, even before I finished writing, I Surrender.
I think Jasper and Ava needed three books because their journey is a challenging one. I wanted I Surrender to be real and raw. I didn’t want it to boy meets girl, they fall in love by page 50, and live happily ever after, because that’s not how life is. Life is challenging, and sometimes it just stinks. But all the obstacles we overcome make us better people, and I see every situation, whether good or bad, as a learning experience.
I Surrender is my explanation on the philosophy of life and love, pleasure and pain, and how they all intertwine so closely, that sometimes, the line blurs between them. I want my readers to love and hate, cry and laugh, curse and praise my characters, just as they would real people. I hope to take them on an emotional rollercoaster, and at the end of it, be breathless for more.
2. Favourite character from the I Surrender series?
Definitely Veronica. I have never told anyone this before, but V is a combination of my two best friends rolled into one fiery, hot tempered firecracker, who says how she feels, and doesn’t shy away from using a little profanity to do so.
3. Favourite quote from Surrender to Me?
“I am completely and hopelessly still in love with Jasper White.”
This, to me, sums up the story of Surrender to Me perfectly.
4. Best compliment you have received as an author?
Honestly, the best compliment as an author is having readers devour your work. There are so many books out there, and to have readers choose your work is compliment enough.
5. If you could invite any 5 authors to dinner who would you chose?
Dr. Seuss, Anne Rice, William Shakespeare, Jeaniene Frost and Beth Michele.
6. If someone wrote a book on your life what would it be called?
LOL love this question! Flavour that Packs a Punch.
Monica James spent her youth devouring the works of Anne Rice, William Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson. Listening to the likes of Elvis to Fiona Apple and everything in between has been her inspirational tool to write. Her varied musical and literary tastes have shaped her into the writer she has become. Monica partook in extra Literature and Writing studies in High School. She studied a Bachelor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University Victoria, Australia, majoring in Philosophy and Cinema Studies for three years. When she is not writing she is running her own business, but always finds a balance between the two. Monica enjoys reading honest, heartfelt and turbulent stories that leave an imprint on her. She put pen to paper because she wanted to write a book that she would want to read. She draws inspiration from her surroundings, hopeful others enjoy reading about the world as she sees it.
