Deep Redemption (Hades Hangmen #4)
“For fractured souls are like magnets.
Drawn to collide into an impossible bliss…”
Labeled a ‘Cursed’ woman of Eve from birth, Maddie has endured nothing but pain and repression at the hands of The Order’s most abusive elder, Moses. Now living with her sister in The Hangmen’s secluded compound, finally, Maddie, is free. Free from the suffocating faith she no longer believes in. Free from endless years of physical and mental torment.
At age twenty-one, the timid and shy Maddie is content to live within the confines of her new home—safe from the outside world, safe from harm and, strangely, protected by the Hangmen’s most volatile member; the heavily pierced and tattooed, Flame.
The man who ceaselessly watches over her with his midnight dark and searing eyes. The man who protects her with a breath-taking intensity. And the man who stirs something deep within her numbed heart.
But when circumstances conspire for Flame to need HER help, Maddie bravely risks it all for the broken man who has captivated her fragile soul.
The Hangmen’s most infamous member, Flame, is ruled by one thing—anger. Plagued by haunting demons from his past, an all-consuming rage, and isolated by an abhorrent hatred of being touched, Flame’s days are filled with suffocating darkness, pierced only by a single ray of light—Maddie. The shy, beautiful woman he cannot purge from his thoughts. The woman he has an overwhelming need to possess…
… the only person who has ever been able to touch him.
Flame’s mission in life is to protect Maddie, to keep her safe. Until a trigger from his troubled past sends him spiraling into madness, trapping him in the deepest recesses of his disturbed mind.
His Hangmen brothers fear that Flame is beyond saving.
His only hope of salvation: Maddie and her healing light.
..This is the 8th blog tour I have taken part in for Tillie Cole and each time I come to write the review I always struggle so much. Her books are just so incredible that having to put the way I feel after reading them into words is impossible. Trying to get across how beautiful and heart breaking her stories are without telling you every single little thing that is amazing is a really struggle but I try really hard, and hopefully succeed at it, because if there is an author and book that deserves to have more people realise just how amazing she/it is, it’s Tillie Cole and Souls Unfractured.
Maddie is sweet and kind, and for someone who has been through so much so young, she is one of the bravest characters of the entire series. Her past is unimaginable as we see more of the horrors of the commune and the abuse she was subjected to during her time there. She is damaged, broken and so fragile, but Flame seems to awaken something in her and although she is petrified of men, she doesn’t hesitate to go to him when he needs help.
“I don’t feel the flames when you’re near. Somehow you calm the flames.”
Everything we know about Flame comes from previous books and from people who don’t fully know him or understand him. He is the guy with all the tattoos and piercings, he is the guy who likes to kill people with knives, he is the guy who self harms, he is the guy who cannot be touch. He is accepted by the Hangmen, he is loved by his brothers, but no one has every truly understood him. But then Maddie sees him and immediately she knows. She sees the darkness that lives inside of Flame, and knows that he is possibly the only person who can understand the horrors of her own life because he is just as damaged as she is. He becomes her safety, her protection, her Flame.
“I…I wanted him as my own. In this moment, seeing the man who had become the center of my world, breaking, I wanted nothing more than to save him. To gift him the peace he so richly deserved, even if it meant sacrificing my newly-awakened heart in the process.”
Tillie sure as hell knows how to write a broken man, and now I totally understand all those Facebook updates she put up whilst writing this book about how much it was tearing her apart. The Flame in this book is a hell of a lot different from the Flame we have met in previous books because we finally get to see the real him. I have been waiting for his story since we met him in book 1 and I have known all along that it would be the worst, the most heartbreaking and the one that would leave me in a complete emotional mess, and I was so right.
“I’ll try harder to remove the flames. I’ll try harder…I…I love you.”
Finding out about Flames past was extremely hard. It was dark, very dark and gruesome and just completely unimaginable. There are no words that can do justice to the evil that Flame was subjected to. I will never think about the number 11 in the same way again, and every time I read it in this book my heart broke for Flame just a little bit more. The way his innocent soul was stripped of everything and the abuse it suffered. His past shattered me, broke my heart, just left me utterly speechless. And his need to be free, to rid himself of the flames that lived within and that forced him to relive the horror of his past again and again was heartbreaking to see. And with every self inflicted cut, came more tears from myself as I felt my heartbreaking a little bit more for this man so full of pain.
“I know I’m different. I know I don’t see the world like everyone else does. But I want to see your world, Maddie. Even if it’s the only one I’ll ever understand.”
It’s hard to pick a favourite couple of this series, because each pair are something completely different. Each couple has a different story to tell, but Souls Unfractured was all Flame and Maddie. Every part of this book was spent with them. There had to be only a few times when they were apart or somewhere other then Flames cabin. It felt a lot more private then previous books which just made it all the more intense and personal, which is Flame and Maddie to a tee. There are no frills in this book, no drama for dramas sake. It was raw, humans at their most vulnerable.
“Two fractured souls made whole only by the other’s unconditional love.”
I can’t not mention AK & Viking, two characters who have always been in the background, the other two in Flames trio, and until this book two characters that we didn’t truly know. The love they feel for Flame is just beautiful. It might sound strange saying that about two fully grown outlaws about another fully grown outlaw, but you can really see how much they care for him and how much they are prepared to do for him.
“Flame’s different. But it don’t make him any less ****ing important.”
Tillie Cole has stamped on my heart a hundred times already. With the Sweet Series, with Raze and with this incredible series. She pulled it out of my chest, rips it to shreds, stomps on it and then mushed it back together and shoves it back it, only to do the exact same thing 2 chapters later. And that is what I love about her writing and why I keep going back to it. She isn’t afraid of the tough topics and she handles them beautifully. Not many people can write about religious cults who abuse and brainwash girls, about torture or rape and make it into a story that you still want to read. These are the kind of topics that we as humans shy away from. But when it comes to Tillie, I can’t stay away. I fall in love with her brave but broken girls with her valorous but vulnerable men and I stick with them through all the hard times, the suffering and the pain because if I do, then I get to see them come out the other end with hope, healing and love.
“My Maddie. Her Flame.”
I could talk about this book all day, as you can tell from my initial reaction video which is double the length it is meant to be! Trying to fit all my thoughts into a appropriately sized review was VERY hard, and even now my fingers are twitching to try and get back up to my review to add more! Just such an incredible book. Tillie gives us the romance, the sexy men, but also a very intense and realistic storyline that you can’t help but get immersed in from page one!
Re-Readability: Stupid Question, of course!
I would recommend this book to: Tillie Cole fans, fans of dark romance, fans of biker boys, fans of Son’s of Anarchy, fans of fiction about religious cults, fans of stories that rip your heart out and leave you a complete emotional mess.
Tillie Cole is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother — a farmer’s daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.
