Illusions Begin (MysticSeeker #1)
Magic Unfolds (MysticSeeker #2)
For the first time in her life, Becky had hopes of fulfilling her own dreams when Blaine Winters inexplicably arrived into her quiet life, teasing her with astounding possibilities she never thought imaginable. Not only did he reveal that magic was indeed real, but he also stirred feelings in her that she had only read about in clichéd romance novels.
But just as quickly as he appeared, he was gone. Then Becky’s life was turned upside down by a family emergency. With the overwhelming demands of running an elite law firm as well as her ex becoming more of a threat each day, she didn’t have time for whimsical thoughts or personal exploration anyway.
Now that Blaine has mysteriously disappeared from her life, she can put her family first and focus on what she needs to do. If only it were that easy. Blaine may be gone and all of Becky’s little girl dreams of a world filled with magic with him, but that doesn’t mean all’s forgotten.
Nightmares are plaguing her, someone is watching her, and there are powers within her that she can’t seem to control.
Will Becky finally get her chance at magic after all, even if she doesn’t want it?
After an awesome start to her MysticSeeker series with Illusions Begin, N.L.Greene brings us another addictive magical book which continues Becky’s story and love of magic in a way that will have you hooked and immediately after finishing, begging to know what happens next!
Magic Unfolds is a hard book for Becky. Blaine’s disappeared, Becky’s father is ill meaning that she has to step up and take control of the families company, sacrificing her love for magic. Plus Lance is being even more of a douche then usual. I mentioned in my review of Illusion’s Begin how unfair I think it is that children are basically forced into the ‘family business’ with no thought for their dreams, so I find it so sad in this book that she has had to completely give up on all thoughts of magic. I was expecting a very grumpy Becky in this book, and yes she has her moments, but as a whole she has selflessly accepted that this is the way her life is going, which just makes me like her even more!
For Becky, being given an insight into a world of real magicand then it all being taken from her is a difficult thing for her to deal with in this book, and the fact that Blaine has just disappeared makes it hurt even more. I think I missed him just as much as she did. But thankfully we still have Ethan who is just as drool worthy and looks extremely hot in a tux. He really steps up for Becky in this book, and even though I am still Team Blaine, I can’t help but love Ethan too.
Lance on the other hand deserves no love from anyone and in this book makes my ‘Bad Boys I Hate’ list. I don’t want to say much and spoil it for you, but just prepare yourself for a very mean and evil Lance!
We get a new quirky character in the form of Samantha, who moves into Becky’s building in this book and I was very unsure of her at first. She was one of these characters that I just couldn’t get a read on, and I wasn’t sure if the secrets that she was obviously keeping were good or bad. That said, she iskind of awesome and kick ass and helps Becky out, making her an O.K. character in my mind, for the time being. I can’t wait to see her develop in book 3 and find out exactly what she is hiding.
Magic, although taking a step back in this book, still features prominently as the secrets Blaine shared with Becky start to become reality in her life. I’m really excited for more magic, I’m kind of a magic geek, and can’t wait to see into this world that N.L.Greene gave us a glimpse of in Illusion’s Begin.
As a whole, a brilliant sequel to Illusion’s Begin. N.L.Greene doesn’t fall into the trap that a lot of series do in which book 2 ends up lacking and feels just like a filler between amazing books 1 & 3. I was hooked by page 1 and didn’t put it down until I had finished it. I love Becky’s and the entire stories development from book 1, and can’t wait to see where N.L.Greene takes it next!
I would recommend this book to fans of: books about real world magic, magicians, romance, coming of age character
1) Do you believe in Magic?
I do in a weird way. I love the idea of magic and believe that there are special people that are so in touch with themselves and the world around them that they can sense and understand things better than others. I also think nature in itself is magical.
2) Did you base any of your Magic Unfolds characters on real people?
Not really. There’s probably always a little bit of myself and my beliefs in each character but as a whole they are just people I made up.
3) Favourite quote from Magic Unfolds?
I think it would be when Sam is giving Becky advice and tells her… “Sometimes life can be so much easier if you just let go, trust your instincts, and be yourself.”
4) If you had magical powers what would be the first thing you would do with them?
I would have the most beautifully landscaped yard with flowers and butterflies all over the place. I hate gardening so that would totally come in handy!
5) You can invite three of your characters from any of your books to a dinner party. Who do you invite and why?
Nat from Twisted so I could give her a heads up on whats going on and try to prevent some of the stuff that happened to her from happening. Sam/Tatiana because I think she’d be a lot of fun! And of course Blaine! He could teach me some magic and he’s totally hot!!
6) Favourite place to write?
Out on my back patio, first thing in the morning when the birds are chirping and it isn’t to hot yet.
7) Favourite place to read?
By the pool or at the beach. Its usually hot and loud but for some reason that’s when I’m relaxed the most.
8) Which book by another author do you wish that you had written?
I would have LOVED to have written all the books in The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison. I love her and the way she wrote those!
9) If you were a superhero what would your powers and superhero name be?
If I were a super hero, I would have the ability to stop time so I could get everything done and I would have super speed so I could get it done faster. Oh and teleportation because I love to go on vacation but I hate long drives and plane rides! 🙂 I’m not sure of a name, maybe Super Sonic Mom…lol!
10) If someone wrote a book on your life what would it be called?
Chaotic harmony! LOL…my life always seems chaotic and crazy. There are a million things to do at one time and we are alwasy going in twenty different directions. But we all work together so well as a team and some how mange to be on time, get everything done, and still be amazingly happy.
