Currently…

July 31, 2017 Blogging 2

So this past weekend was YALC and it was amazing and chilled out and full of books, but I also came back feeling totally knackered (probably from all the books I had to carry!). I had plans to write a post about YALC today but then decided that I couldn’t be bothered, because I’m lazy like that, and so decided to do something a bit more fun instead.

I stole the below from Jamie @ Perpetual Page Turner. If you don’t already know her blog then check it out (it’s awesome), and she’s just had a totally gorgeous baby girl so go gooey eyes over her too!

Currently reading: Trust by Kylie Scott. I’ve got so many fantasy series to catch up on but was absolutely knackered after YALC so wanted something less fantastical and more normal world. Currently at 15% and loving it.

Currently listening to: Helium by Sia. I’m currently working on a pretty emotional scene in my WIP and this song is the only thing that gets me in the right head space for it. Literally listening to it on repeat for hours on end at the moment.

Dreaming of Reading Rooms

July 18, 2017 Reading 0

I think we’ve all had that dream that one day when we are all grown up we will live in a castle with a beast, talking candlesticks and a beautiful library all of our own. Ok, so maybe not the beast or the candlesticks but definitely yes to the library!

But as we get a little bit more realistic maybe it won’t be so much a gigantic library as a reading nook. And that’s still pretty cool because it’s a space all of our own to fill with bookish love and settle down to an adventure in a fantasy world or a romance that will sweep us off our feet!

So what do we need to make the perfect reading space? A comfy chair of course, some decent lighting and a pretty bookcase. Sounds about right. So I went in search of some things that would definitely be in my reading space.

Hangovers…of the bookish variety.

July 7, 2017 Discussion 2

I don’t know about you but I both love and hate bookish hangovers. They are great because they always mean that you have read something INCREDIBLE. But on the downside, that incredible thing is now over and trying to adjust back to normal life is HARD!

I recently read “Damaged Like Us“, the newest book by twins Becca & Krista Ritchie. You may know them as the authors of the amazing “Addicted” series. Well Damaged Like Us is the first book in the spin off series “Like Us”, which focus’ on the next generation of the Addicted gang.

Ever since this new book and series was announced I have wanted it. And then the synopsis was released and I wanted it even more. I literally spent pre-release week counting the days and I was clock watching right up until it’s midnight release on 27th June. I then stayed up until 4.30am reading, followed by a whole day in work. And what did I do in work that day you ask?

I read it again.

The Story
 (summary from Goodreads)

Don’t date your bodyguard.
It was the one rule he had to break.

Maximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible — the twenty-two-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. By noon, lunch can turn into a mob of screaming fans. By two, his face is all over the internet.

Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth.

He is certified American royalty.

When he’s assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who’s known for “going rogue” in the security team — and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff’s sexual fantasies.

Twenty-seven-year-old Farrow Keene has one job: protect Maximoff Hale. Flirting, dating, and hot sex falls far, far out of the boundary of his bodyguard duties and into “termination” territory. But when feelings surface, protecting the sexy-as-sin, stubborn celebrity becomes increasingly complicated.

Together, boundaries blur, and being exposed could mean catastrophic consequences for both.

My Thoughts

I can’t explain how desperate I have been to get my hands on this book, I can’t remember the last time a book release had me as excited as this one. And then for the first time, in a long time, I stayed up until 4.30am reading it after its midnight release. I couldn’t function in work the next day I was so tired, but also because I was so hungover from this book that I immediately started reading it again. Yes, that’s right. In the past 3 days I have read this book twice. It’s just that good.

“Our fame burns. And burns. None of us need to stoke the flames for it to stay lit. And me—fame is my friend and foe. It’s a part of me. A tangible thing that lives inside of me. This is the only life I’ve ever lived. It’s the only life I know.

The Story(summary from Goodreads)

Summary for book #1 (A Harmless Little Game)

Four years ago I lost my virginity on live, streaming television. Too bad I wasn’t awake for it.

The video went viral. Of course it would. A Senator’s daughter on camera? Wouldn’t you click “share”? Besides, that’s what three of the four guys in the video did.

Share. They shared me.

But that fourth guy? The nondescript one in the background in the upper left corner of the screen, just sitting on the couch? The only one who did nothing? Not one single thing.

That was my boyfriend, Drew. And that was the last time I saw him.

Until today, when my father—now on a path to the White House—hired him as head of security for my new team as I return home after four years of “recovering” in an undisclosed location that involved white lab coats, needles, pills and damage control.

You see, the other three guys never went to jail. Never had charges pressed. Never faced consequences.

Until today. Game on.

.
My Thoughts

I have to admit that going in I did not think I was going to like this book. It pinged up on my facebook as a freebie and I was looking for something easy that I could read in a few hours. I expected easy and nice. I did not expect to be buying the second book at 1am and immediately diving back into the series.

My Thoughts

When I requested this book I was pretty intrigued by the story line. I’m a massive fan of romances between two totally different types of characters and had big hopes. Then I started reading it and I quickly became worried that I was going to hate it.

Tessa wasn’t the easiest of characters to connect with. I consider myself a fangirl of some pretty awesome authors, but I could never even begin to get in the mind of someone that obsessed with someone. Her agoraphobia was an interesting part of the story, but she didn’t seem to develop in anyway throughout the book. She literally spent the entire book as an obsessed fan girl sat in her room.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish.
Each week they release a Top Ten Theme and invite everyone to join in and make their own Top Ten List.

My reading is going really well this year and I am WAY ahead of my reading goals, however my TBR only seems to be getting bigger and not smaller! Not helped by these YA books which I’ve recently added to my list and am so excited to start reading!
